Can I get Ad & Spyware & Viruses on my TP2?
 

Hello all

Sorry to ask this here but as I have a TP2 it seemed like the best place.

So I was just wondering if just like a PC, when surfing the net and getting e-mails, can I pick up Adware, Mail and Spyware and Viruses?

If so are there any program for these like they have for PC's?

very doubtful you will ever get anything.

The browser and operating system are insignificant enough in how many people use them that hackers wouldn't likely target winmo phones. Kind of like why windows pc software and OS are most vulnerable because it is the most commonly used (also released too early) and why linux and apple based pc are less vulnerable. Iphones are more likely to be targeted because of their market share. It needs to be worth the developers time to create a virus for ppc.

They make a Spybot Search & Destroy for WinMo, but I'd like to hear if anyone ever had anything come up in the search results...

Yes, it is possible. HIGHLY unlikely, though.

To be honest, I have a cab that could be considered a virus. Its a very lite code that does an immediate shutdown of the phone (not sleep, but full power off). The cab installs it to the \Windows directory and makes a shortcut in the \Windows\Startup folder named "Outlook.lnk" so your phone reboots as soon as you see the Windows logo. Endless reboot cycle.

Since there is a relatively small userbase for Windows Mobile devices, virus makers probably don't waste time writing malicious code for us.

Sure you can, you can have your TP2 be hit from a meteor that fell from space, firing like a missile into your device.

Sure it can happen, is it likely? Pretty ****ing not,

considering you can hard reset and be back in full force in like, a day.

You have a greater chance of getting hacked through bluetooth.....just like you can with any phone that has bluetooth.
