Foreign SIMS and CDMA TP2.

I have a Verizon CDMA TP2, security and SIM unlocked and running MR 12/06 with a 2.05WV radio.

Here in Canada, I can put in a Rogers SIM for GSM and it registers and works fine on the Rogers network. Now if I put in any of my foreigns SIMs (from Middle East, Asia), the TP2 doesn't seem to register on Rogers at all.. get the Antenna and "!" icon.

These same SIMs register fine with an old Motorola L6 I have laying around.

Any idea why I can't get the TP2 or Rogers to play nice with these "foreign" SIMs?

Try going to phone options and changing mode to GSM only and selecting network?

I tried that before... no dice.

It's strange that when I pop them in the L6, it lights up with the network "welcome" SMS for the foreign SIMs... but nada on the TP2.

I had no difficulty here in the US on my Vzw TP2 popping in a Vodafone SIM (not the faux one that comes with the phone, but one that goes along with a UK number I picked up while working in London). I got my welcome text right away and service is flawless. So at least EU carriers seem to work here.
