I Don't Hate iPhone, I'm Just Pro-Touch Pro 2!
 

Recently while at a 3 year olds birthday party I over heard people discussing phones. A person wanted to get a new phone and was talking to a iPhone user, he was telling her the features of the phone...

I gravitated toward the conversation, whipped out my Touch Pro 2 and said...
"The iPhone is cool and all, you have to check out my phone..." she immediately expressed how she liked my phone just by looking at it...

I told her that the two phones have similar features and she will find more useless apps, on the iPhone than the TP2...

The iPhone user quickly mentioned how easy it was to navigate through the iPhone interface, how the screen was only activated by touch, has weather updates, etc...

I countered by showing her the ROM I was running (MightyRom Love). To be fair I told her that it was not how the phone came

Again the iPhone user said "yeah, he had to install a special interface, my iPhone is stock!!"

That opened the door for me, "correct, you can customize the phone to your liking. It's not locked like the iPhone, which is even locked to a specific carrier..."

The story goes on much longer, in short she decided she was going to look at the HTC Touch Pro 2, she has Sprint.

I did mention if she wanted AT&T that the Tilt 2 is a rebraned TP2.
If she wanted to go to Verizon or T-Mobile it's the Touch Pro 2...

iPhone stock is locked to a carrier but even you must know it can be unlocked if you are privy to this site.

I would be honest to that lady, if she doesnt want to put some work/time into it then this phone is not for her. if she is willing to learn then yes its great

Easy there cowboy, I told you there was more to the story than just what I typed, I too mentioned that she could jailbreak the iPhone

As I said, I'm not an iPhone hater, I just like the phone I have better... that's why I have it

Oh yeah, she did say too that she'd rather have a phone that has a slide out qwerty keyboard, that is what she was most interested in

no offense intended. Just there was another thread heatin up in here over the last few days about same thing.

Yea if she likes the sliding keyboard then iphone is not for her, that is one thing i do hate about it, although their input is far more accurate than softkeyboard in android. but at the same time the sliding keyboard mechanisms on theses htc's is a shakey, every one ive owned gets a little loose after only a months use. and the tp1 had to be the worst, that thing would half way slide by itself. I wish they could make it solid enough to keep its stiffness, makes the phone feel more solid

Why can't we leave the iPhone alone...

People seriously have this huge inferiority complex with it. It's nice to show people what the TP2 can do but is it really a contest? Do we really "win" if she choses a winmo device? Everyone denies it but it's such a classic insecurity with the iphone.

Over the summer my sister asked me what smartphone to get. Knowing how she hates tweaking and customizing tech stuff I told her to just to look at an iphone. She didn't listen to me and got a Blackberry instead. She loves it. I guess we both lose... LOL.

I try very hard to NOT talk friends into the TP2, or any WM PPC, or anything else techie in life, unless I'm willing to hold their hand forevermore. If they're a techie, they probably already know about these types of phones, and if not, I don't see any need to risk a friendship over talking anyone into anything.

Ive always felt the same way. I really get sick of people asking me how i do stuff (mod 360, wii, jailbreaking, unlocking phones, etc) and i never tell them because i dont want to have them break/brick something and I be the one the call to try and fix it. My wife wanted a tp2 but i couldnt let that happen, she would be throwing this thing against the wall after a week trying to figure out the simplest stuff lol

You are correct. Ppl know I'm always messing with my phone, but then I will ask them some what they want in a phone. I'll tell them what my phone can do, but most of the ppl I DO refer them to the iphone and they love it.

Honestly, I wish we could have some of those "useless apps" for winmo. Iphone users can play games with each other. Words with friends is pretty cool and my friends are playing it....but I'm left out. haha. it's basically scrabbled and you can connect to other users. When you try to connect the other person gets notified that you want to play them. not bad....

Amen. I actually don't show them anything unless they ask. And even when they do show alot of interest I tell them that my phone is very customized the way I like it... and there is a bit of a learning curve to be this way... (ie "a Geek"). The people that I tend to help are people that actually have Winmo phones and are struggling with them. Most of the time, they are just running completely stock and are on the verge of switching to an easier device.

I really like Winmo phones but over the years, I've realized that it's not really that great for the average person.

I've used both the HTC Pro 2 and the iphone and one thing the TP2 can't compete with is how smooth the web browsing is. The page loads up and never needs to load anything else on the page again unlike the TP2 where if you scroll down you'll hit the white/gray check box loading pattern. also the i've had to hit next or any of the links multiple times to get them to register on the TP2.

Is there a fix for that? the tp2 seems to do that with opera stock and opera 10 beta 2.

IE should get the Rebel Internet Browser award for not following basic W3C standards.

Apple has it right for the most part, Safari is one badass browser, second to Firefox. Next down the list is Opera then every other browser in existence, then dirt, then clay, then hell, then IE.

gotta love these intelligent posts.... (btw, it would be the same with any phone name inserted above).

The funny thing is that people rant and rave over how great their phone is over another (mostly the iphone) and then they go out 6 months later complaining to Sprint (or VZN) how crappy their phone is in order to get a free upgrade... I guess it depends on who your audience is. LOL.

The problem is that iPhone users don't just talk about the benefits of their phone, they say how everything else is crap, and they use their useless apps as justification. And Heaven forbid you don't agree with them, because you're plain too stupid to see the light. They don't give anyone usable information to make an informed decision.

I was at a New Year's party the other day, and a couple, sitting next to each other on the sofa, was sending farting noises to each other with their new noise app. And somehow I'm supposed to believe that iPhone is better than my HTC Touch Pro 2? Based on that??

I don't hate the iPhone. I hate the cult of iPhone users. They are smug and superior.

I rarely engage them anymore. My brothers in law (3 of them) and their girls are all iPhone users. My wife rocks my old TP and she loves it.
That's all that matters.
Yesterday my brother in law was updating a whiteboard calendar and I asked him "isn't there an app for that?" He said "Probably... I just don't have time to be looking for it every time I want to know what's on my schedule"
I didn't say a word... I turned on my phone and clicked on the word calendar on my home screen.

It's the same with most any apple fanboy about anything that the almighty half-eaten apple produces.

Unfortunately, I have not done as well as some of you in hiding my capabilities from friends/family. When asked about mobile phone advice or any tech advice for that matter, I always try to take into account the user that I am making recommendations to. I'm diehard Sprint, so I push Sprint because the rates are so great and there are plenty of phone options. When making a recommendation, I simply do my best to point them to the phone that will work best for them. That being said, I regularly acknowledge in these conversations that the iPhone does what it does very well. I can't argue that point, but I can't state that Windows Phones have been doing it for much longer. My challenge to all the ifanboys, what can you're phone do that mine (Touch Pro 2) can't - other than the 100,000 fart apps? The few things an iPhone can do that are unique to it, aren't things I am going to lose sleep over not being able to do.

As a rule, the cult of iPhone only has 1 piece of advice - there is only one phone - and it's the iCLONE. Oh, how I hate being just like everyone else.

Okay, sorry... for the RANT, but isn't everyone entitled a spot on the soapbox periodically.

You know what though... I've found that most iPhone users don't even know what their phone can do that ours can't.
I just armed myself with a few pointless little apps....

And pointless stuff like that and that's usually enough for them to stop trying to compete with me as they see the keboard slide out with a star trek "swoosh" or a transformers robot sound.
Cuz the conversation usually starts with, "Oh... is that an iPhone?"

And something else I've noticed... lol.
EVERYTHING'S a competition.
Your car, your house, your kids, your watch, your hmm hm...
You name it. So... It's in our nature. I enjoy the competition and I enjoy knowing what the iPhone can and can't do... That way I can steer the contest and I win. lol

^^ Ditto i HATE the iphone and yes i do. i dislike apple in general. they brand something with a fruit and its price goes up 100 Bucks. i dislike ppl who praise the iphone and ipods.<< i dont even own an ipod i have a zune lol. I knew a bunch of ppl who tried selling me the iphone and showing me useless apps. but i dont like that you spend 500 bucks on a 16 gb phone no removable battery no SD card slot and then spend more money on apps. or jailbreak your phone and get third party apps. what i really dislike is the lack Cut and Paste on the orginal iphones. you needed an app to cut and paste. and they recently released that as a new feature. AWESOME cuz thats standard on anything else. They just give you the same thing over and over again and change it by one small thing and its the new iphone. IE: the ipad does anyone else think its a huge iphone with no phone or flash player. but i mean ok the apps are nice and the iphone is usefull for the apps. but. in terms of freedom i would always go with winmo phones.

P.S correct me if im wrong theres no problem with that

Ok, just about everyone i know and pretty much everyone in my family has one of the 3 iphones. So atfer dropping my touch pro in the toilet, i was pondering if i should get the touch pro 2 or the htc hero. so one of my co-workers over heard me talking to a sprint rep and after i got off the phone he says, man you should get a iphone, its got 1000s of apps and now its got a cam and you can jail break it blah blah blah. so i said ive been a fan of htc and windows mobile for a long time, and i belive that wm is the best os for me. then he gives me the spill about how the iphone is by far the best phone on the market and every other phone company come out with an "iphone killer" but it ends up being another subpar phone. i asked him what can the iphone do that a touch pro 2 cant, or a blackberry for that matter. all he could say was the iphone is worth getting for the apps alone, and no other phone has a server like apple set up for the iphone. i told him everything that i could do with my touch pro, from adding a custom rom and flashing it to another provider, just about everthing i could think of. then i said plus my touch pro had a camera right out of the box and i didnt have to wait 3 gens to be able to send pics. he really didnt say much after that except iphone has 1000s of apps. now i am not bashing the iphone at all, i dont know much about it and the alittle i do know makes it sound like a awsome phone. i just think that if your gonna buy a phone you should research and find out what best meets your needs, and noit buy something because its popular or because of word of mouth.

one of my staff member has the iphone... actually all my other 3 managers has the iphone!!! im the only manager wit a winmo phone and im still proud of it.. with all the unlocked featurs of a winmo device iphone doesn't even come close with it 1000s "useful" apps which u can just search on google to find!!! :)
