Just restore the PIM file and then soft reset and you should be good to go

yea i know how to do it i've been doing it for years and on the newest mighty rom even after a soft reset the contacts tab crashes and when u try to hit phone it crashes as well when the phone boots up where its suppose to have the signal strength theres just a "x" next to it instead of signal bars. I tested this several times between flashing roms and it seems that the pim fileis causing this

its strange because the later december roms originated this issue i havent been able to find out why tho

I think this is a method for sense 2.1. What about sense 2.5?

When I use 2.5 PIMBackup restores my fav people tab with no issues.

Maybe Pimbackup does it but SPB doesnt. I've also tried coping pim.vol and facebook.vol to my device but pim.vol but it only updates my contacts. I guess I'll just add them again. Thank you though.

Microsoft My Phone is about as simple as it comes and it will backup your contacts and even put them back in to your favorites for you after a hard reset. I highly recommend.

You might get duplicates.

I managed to duplicate all of my EXchange contacts the one time I tried to restore. I have come to the conclusion that with Exchange, especially if you have a lot of contacts and don't want a lot of re-work afterwards, it's safest to simply delete your ActiveSync partnership right after you've flashed a ROM, and then set up a new partnership -making sure you had sync'ed of course before you flashed so both Exchange and your device were in sync!

Another method you could do is to use this cab. {Zenyee Back FavPeople Up! (v1[1].3).cab}

Many thanks for this one 1999TL! This works like a charm :D

Thank you. I was cosidering My Phone for back up also but I'm a little weary of my contact information out on the web. I'm sure a most might think it should be ok but I just don't want to deal with it if something does happen.

Don't know what to tell you then, boss. I, too, am on the latest Mighty ROM and have never experienced the crash. Although, after restoring the PIM data file and then soft resetting, I immediately go back in and delete the old pim file before doing anything else. The old one will be renamed to something with a few extra characters in it before the 'pim.vol' and is smaller in size so you could try doing that and seeing if it helps
