Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2

Is there a way to shut off the data connection on this phone, so you do not have to purchase a data plan from Verizon?

If you already have the phone and looking to use the phone without a data plan, couldn't you just call up Verizon and ask them to block data on your account?

I don't think there is any way to do it.

Starting with the TP, Verizon started requiring full data plan on any PPC.

Even if you had them block the data, you still have to pay for a full data plan (or use an older phone like the xv6800)

It is not possible to legally use the phone without a verizon data package. No ifs, ans, or buts about it.

Yea, that's pretty much what I figured.

My son uses an xv6800 when he in on his College campus & has WiFi 24/7, but he would not be able to do that with a TP or TP2.....(not legally anyway)

if you buy the phone new in contract, you will pay data. period.

if you buy it off ebay or "out of contract", then you aren't required to pay data. this is how Verizon and any other carrier gets their money back from these devices.

So I can put it on a line that has a data block if I bought the phone from ePay or Craigslist?

I think you're wrong.

When you activate a TP or TP2, VZ's database will recognize the ESN as a late model phone & refuse to activate without a data plan.

This was true very recently unless they have changed something I didn't hear about it??

Not true..i have a friend that bought an "out of contract" TP2 and doesn't pay data. This could be Verizon only though as i can speak for any other carrier.

The carriers charge us only about 50% of what they pay HTC or other phone manufacturers when you buy a "contract phone". The data is how they make that money back up.

sure, if you buy it off ebay or craigslist and the phone is compatible, you can definitely add data to it. Luckily for you, you aren't bound by a contract and can end your service or end your data whenever you want.
