Notification Won't Go Away

Hello! I am currently using an HTC Touch Pro2 from US Cellular.

I have no new text messages, but the indicator on the drop-down menu for my inbox still says "(1)" and the Messages tab still has a one popped up on it. I tried a soft reset but to no avail. My inbox is empty, as are all of my other boxes.

Anyone have any ideas?

Check this thread - LINK.

I'm also attaching the file reference which needs to be unzipped to your /Windows directory

In the /Windows on my phone, yes?

Yes! That's correct.

Re: Notification Won't Go Away

Yeah, I'm browsing the files and folders from my computer and there isn't a /Windows folder. Do I just need to drag it into the phone and then move it once it's inside the phone to that folder?

Re: Notification Won't Go Away

Uhh, well I have no idea how to use this file. I copied the .zip file to the /Windows folder and that's about as far as I got. Anyone care to help me with this? I'm not exactly a power user.

Re: Notification Won't Go Away

If you are browsing the phone look for the Windows folder on your phone, the "/" just denotes file structure....does that make sense?

Re: Notification Won't Go Away

Yes, I understand that. But my problem is what while I got the .zip file itself into the /Windows folder on the phone, I have no idea what to do from there. At the moment, it's just sitting there.

Ok, first you need to "unzip" the zip file posted. Easiest way is to this to use WinZip(www.winzip.com), install this program to your PC if you don't have it already have installed. Open the htmlnote.zip file from my original post, which you should have downloaded to your PC, using winzip. Now you can Extract the htmlnote.dll file from the zip file to either a temp location on your PC, or directly to your Windows folder on your phone. If you unzip it your PC first, just copy to your phone's Windows folder using ActiveSync to browse your phones contents.

Oh, I see. The only problem I'm having is that I cannot find my /Windows folder using Windows Explorer on my computer.

Are your connecting and browsing the phone using ActiveSync?

Ok, good! Last question time - What Operating System are you running on your PC(XP, Vista, 7)? This will let me dial-in with proper instructions...

Ok here's how to find your Windows folder from Win7:

Using Windows Mobile Device Center;

1. Click on "Connect without setting up your device" when you first connect your phone.
2. Hover over "File Management" on the next screen, the click "Browse the contents of your device".
3. You now should have a display of the disc drives of your TP2. Before going further, look to the upper left for the drop down labled "Organize" with a chevron to the immediate right. Click on Oranganize and select "Folder and search options". This brings you to Folder Options, click on the tab labeled "View" and look to the listings under "Advanced Settings". What you need to do is click on the radio button labled "Show hidden files, folders, or drives" under "Hidden files and folders" header AND click the arrow OFF of "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"...NOTE: Windows 7 will squawk when you do this but just click "Yes".
4. Now will be able to see the Windows folder on your TP2!:laughing6:

Thank you very much for your help up through now! So all I need to do is drop that file into the /Windows folder and unplug my phone and it'll be good, right?

You are very welcome! Yes, drop the htmlnote.dll file into your Windows directory on the phone. It's always a good idea to to a soft reset(power off and power back on) following this type of change. Then, hopefully your message counter will reset properly and no more frustration.

Re: Notification Won't Go Away

I, for some reason, have a larger version of the .dll file in the /Windows folder already. It also says I cannot delete it. Is it alright to move the smaller, real .dll file to the folder and leave the other one, or is there some way to delete the larger version?

Just to be 100% safe - Copy the orginal DLL file from your Windows directory someplace else for safekeeping, then overwrite the original DLL with the supplied one from the Zip file.

It says Access Denied....

Sorry to make this more difficult than it should be...

Also, I cannot replace the larger .dll with the smaller .dll, but I think I can put the smaller .dll in the folder as well.

This is a problem with Windows Explorer and the quick and dirty workaround is to have you install a quality third-party file utility for your TP2 which will be able to get the job done directly from your phone. I'm attaching a .cab file for Total Commander(tcmdpocketarm.cab) which your can drop directly onto your phone and double-click from your phones File Explorer to install. I'll post Total Commander instructions shortly...

Re: Notification Won't Go Away

Thanks, I put it on the phone but for some reason my File Explorer seems to be stuck in a vicious cycle that requires my phone to load every freaking single file in the /Windows folder before I can change the folder. I have no idea just how long that could take, and all I have at the moment is the spinning bubbles....

Re: Notification Won't Go Away

You can download the original zip file to your TP2's storage card. Then unzip/extract it using zip on your TP2. Then use File Explorer to cut and paste the new unzipped file into your Windows folder.

Don't worry, it takes awhile to read through all the files in the Windows directory.

Alright, I literally just cleared the Windows folder situation, and I'm installing the .cab file you uploaded for me. Standing by.

I am having the same issue. I am on MM ROM 11/25. I have had no problem with this until yesterday. I tried to do what you suggested, however when I try to find the file using file explorer I does not show up. But when I explore the device while hooked up to my PC using Active Sync I can view the file on the device. I did try to copy and paste the file from my desktop. I thought that would work, but when I performed a soft reset it still showed 1 text remaining when I clearly have none. Urhhh. lol.

Here's another possible solution for this "ghost" message issue:

Unzip the attached zip to your storage card, or on the device and run it. When it finishes, wait a few minutes and the problem should go away.

Thanks alot for trying to help a noob like me. I'm afraid I messed up something. I now get text messages, however, I can no longer send or read text messages. So if I try this cab will it clear this up and clear up the initial problem. Is there a way to reinstall the original file I replaced? Or am I doomed to a hard reset? :-x

Unless you are backing the device up, and can restore from a previous point in time, then a hard reset may be the next step.

Thanks, this fixed my issue... hopefully I won't have to keep running this...
