help, verizon tp2 won't let me change data connection to virgin mobile

I am currently visiting australia with my stock unlocked verizon tp2. Have purchased a prepaid plan and sim card from virgin mobile australia and am successfully using for calls no problem. virgin customer support talked me through setting up a data connection with them in the network managment section.

Unfortunately it seems that the verizon wireless data connection is "sticky". I select my virgin mobile new network from "programs that auto connect to the internet should connect using" and I de-select the "this network connects to the internet" check box for verizon and enable for virgin connection and ok out but the settings do not stick. Every time I go back in the verizon is selected again.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or know a registry hack to unstick the verizon wireless data connection?
