Weather Update Causes Shift in Time Zone

I saw some similar threads, but nothing with my exact problem. When my weather updates, it switches my phone to a different time zone. I have called US Cell and they have done everything including a master reset on my phone. US Cell says it is a software problem and I need a new phone. Of course they are out of stock and not available for weeks. HTC says it is a cell tower problem, that US Cell is sending out the wrong time over the towers. I find that hard to believe as I have had US Cell for years and years and never had this problem until the day I purchased the HTC Touch Pro 2. Any idea how to fix this? It has the potential to cause real problems with my calendar. I don't want to disable the weather because I love that feature. Thanks in advance.

+1 on the location edit

Yup, I've found that if I use "My Location" as the time displayed on the home screen the time zone randomly changes. Once I set a specific location (Touch the clock, select Add City, add a specific city, and make it the default) then time time zone stays correct.

Re: Weather Update Causes Shift in Time Zone

Okay... I guess mine was caused by something else. iGo8 was set to sync the timezone with the OS. I added a parameter in the sys.txt file and now everything is working great!

It's nice to know I can put in a work around to deal with this pretty darn annoying problem. However, I would like to know if anyone knows what causes this or knowos of an actual fix...

It would really be nice to get this working as intended...

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.5(Microsoft Windows; PPC; Opera Mobi/16643; U; en) HTC_Touch_Pro2)

i dont know the deal, but i just flashed to mightyrom 1/10 and i am not having the prog anymore. i did also reinstall most if not all of my original cabs. the problem could have been from cabs but im thinking mike fixed it somehow in his latest rom

Re: Weather Update Causes Shift in Time Zone

Well scratch that last post from me...I just updated to MR 1/13 and the problem returned. Went back to 1/10 and the problem was there. Can't figure out what I did before to fix it.

Anytime I set my timezone through Clocks and Alarms to be in Central US Time (GMT-6) it reverts back to Eastern US Time (GMT-5) whenever my weather is updated. Tried many things off of a fresh install with and without doing Sprint provisioning...

I know I can just sidestep the issue by manually setting my location to a specific city, but it is so annoying not having the program work the way it was meant to >_<.

I am having this happen when connected via wifi. My phone thinks I'm in beijing. I get time and weather for china. Don't know if this sheds any light for you or not.

I have the same problem.
I am in Chicago, with Verizon, with the WM 6.5 update.

When the weather updates to curren tlocation, I jump to the Eastern Time Zone.

The only workaround I have is to disable the HTC Location Service under Settings/Location Settings, then enable the "Time synchronize with mobile network automatically" under Personal Settings/Phone/CDMA Services.

I get the correct time, but the weather is not current.

I can't seem to keep the HTC location service disabled, however now that I have enabled the sync with mobile network my time stays right. Unless I am missing something lol.

Re: Weather Update Causes Shift in Time Zone

Count me in too. I activated my phone a week ago and immediately updated it to WM 6.5. I live in the Atlanta area (Eastern Time Zone) but my phone wants to live in Denver (Mountain Time Zone). I've disabled the weather update and that seems to eliminate the temporal shift. However, I'd really like to have the home screen weather since that's what the software was designed to do. Perhaps we should create a database of homesick TP2's. Anyone in Mountain Time have a Verizon TP2 that insists on displaying Eastern Time? I'll trade ya!

Been running energy roms since my tp1 and on my tp2 since the HSPL dropped and never had this issue until his april 11th rom... and now on the 13th and april 14th roms as well... I cant get mine to stay on -6 (central time) it keeps going back to -5 eastern... I have ran task29 and hard reset several times and still haven't figured out this issue... so annoying lol

I had the same problem when I was using the Sprint Lovers Cab. It would not recognize my home location so I installed conflippers weather and it screwed with my time settings. by adding 1 hour to all the major cities I had listed. removed that and used JVH3_WeatherCityEditor and it solved all my problems (at least with the clock issues LOL)

wolffer691 04-15-2010 07:46 PM

Re: Weather Update Causes Shift in Time Zone

JVH3_WeatherCityEditor did not fix the problem still looking for a answer hopefully someone will answer that has a clue cause i sure dont the only thing i can think of is that the registry is written to default back to eastern time but how to fix it idk!!!!!!!](*,)

I had the same issue - mostly when in the car and moving from cell tower to cell tower.

1) Bring up the dialer, press Menu, Options, CDMA Services, Time Synchronization and uncheck Time synchronize with mobile network automatically.

2) Go to manilla Settings tab, Data services and enable Internet time sync.

No longer had any issues after that and My Location and localized weather on home is working as intended.

O.K...I was with you on Step 1. In fact, Time synchronize with mobile network was already unchecked. However, I cannot locate a manila Settings tab or any other place where I can find Data services. I'm using WM 6.5 on Verizon.

O.K....I tried it your way since I had Time synchronize with mobile network unchecked. Now it's checked. Of course I still cannot locate where Internet time sync is on my phone. Regardless, I turned on the automatic weather update. The phone immediately reset to Mountain Time. I've switched it back to Eastern. We'll see how long that sticks.

Re: Weather Update Causes Shift in Time Zone

My time zone kept shifting from cell tower to cell tower but most likely due to the DST changes not being applied to all towers, not due to weather updates... maybe your problem is truly different?

Unchecking the CDMA Service time synchro fixed it because it no longer relied on cell towers for time zone information, and enabling internet time made sure I still had some way to ensure my time was accurate.

I'd buy that if the difference were only one hour. But this is a two hour difference between time zones. I'm trying to read up on Manila now to see if I can find where the adjustment in Step 2 is located. I appreciate your help thus far.

Anyone have Confilippers weather database installed? this also seems to cause it with my location service but works fine with all other manila versions

Nope. I do not have a Data services selection. The closest thing I have is Communications. Going through every selection including Communications, I still cannot find an option to Get time from the internet. BTW, we were back to Mountain Time this morning. :(

Ok this worked perfectly for me Thankyou guys and I looked a little further and found the reg key for this setting for those of you like me that like all your settings setup for you automatically on a fresh flash heres the reg key in question to add to disable htc manilla weather time sync.. also changeing this reg key should work for those of you who can't find the setting to change in the manilla settings tab :)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\TimeZoneAutoFix]
"CreatePDPAlways"=dword:00000002

Original or default value is 1.. setting it to 2 disables the Manilla time sync and fixes the hour ahead on weather update issue...

Try keeping sync settings on and install this cab. This is the working settings in Imagio 6.5
