Can I buy one of these from outside the USA and expect it to work well here with my local GSM provider?

only the australian telstra t8285 version will work in the states on 3G,and then only with ATT. (posting from it)

on AT&T does the t8285 only work at 3G on 850Mhz or also on 1900Mhz?
