HELP: Can not delete/install "write-protected"?

When attempting to add new software or deleting old files, I receive and error.

"Error Deleting File
Cannot delete 'xxxxxx':
Access is denied.

Be certain that the file is not write-protected and is not currently in use."

I am unable to find any setting location in the phone that would even allow me to set/remove read/write protection.....

Files are clearly not in use as they are unused program archives. Does anyone have advice on this topic? Even when syncing to laptop i am unable to delete files from "Explore Device" (i also cant sync my contacts as of yet...so i dont want do the hard reset).

Battery Help.

You may want to consider changing your phone case. I have found that if you have a strong magnet on the Sprint PPC-6700 phone, it will turn your phone on and drain your battery without the power/backlight button being pressed. This also caused my phone to overheat in this process. As plain as the case is, you may want to use the case provided.

Sorry, i have no issue with the battery, and am not using a case...

I think you posted in the wrong topic.

most likely those files are on your memory card and what causes that is when the tab on your memory card is accidentally moved to the "locked" position. just move it back and try again.

Pete, at the very least, get yourself a more robust file manager like Total Commander or Resco. TC will allow you to view and manage write protection and other attributes. Of course, any files built into the rom (generally in the \windows folder) may be truly unaccessible. I would be extremely careful messing with "unused program archives"; they're probably write-protected for a good reason.

It has nothing to do with the memory as the microSD cards that come with the ppc6800 do not have a "lock" tab.

I will give Total Commander a shot..thank you.

Also, to clarify...I was deleting compressed files that i had downloaded but never used. In addition, the problem is not limited to these files, but pictures and the like, on both mem card and internal memory

No dice with TC.

I am unable to install software as well, so i dont think Resco is going to be a viable option either..

If i were able to find all of my contacts on the phone...i would jsut compress them and beam them to my computer. This is the only way i can transfer files off my phone

Have you tried a hard reset to put the phone back to factory configuration?

Pete here you go

Start, Settings, System

after you get to this screen look for the soft button that says Encryption.

if you encrypted your files by mistake and then flashed a new rom you may need to format the card by using a card reader on your computer.
