You have to connect the phone to a pc with a usb cable. Your phone has to have a wifi or cellular data connection to get a connection to the internet. You use the internet sharing application to share that connection with your pc.

The default way is to use ICS which has USB and Bluetooth.


There is also things like WMWIFIROUTER, wifi is more dependable and you dont need to keep it plugged in but you may need a fan to cool the phone off as it may begin overheating.

I've been unable to tether and others seem to have no problem..including my son. My "connect" softkey is greyed out so I can't follow the simple instructions I've found elsewhere.

PDAnet is the way to go. Not a lot of setup and you are up and running in no time at all.

Make sure you are connnected to your PC. You may need to connect and disconnect the USB cable a couple times to make sure all the drivers are installed. Set up your phone with windows mobile device center and connect. Then close the connecet center.
On your phone go to start > settings > and tap on the connections tab at the bottom. Open up USB to PC and uncheck the box marked "enable advanced network functionality".
You may need to reconnect your phone to your pc again.
On your phone go to start > Programs > scroll down and click on internet sharing. Pick USB and tap "connect.
You should be good to go.
