Hardware Keyboard - Characters repeat

Recently, I have noticed that I get a lot of multiple characters per key press using the hardware keyboard. For example, if I press the "b", I get "bbb". It happens with any number of keys, not just 1 or 2.

xv6800, MR1. MS3 with MSkips stuff.

Any ideas?

Same problem here. Started a month ago. Lots of apps loaded ...been dropped a few times as well. I'm going to hard reset prior to taking it in for replacement.

wow I thought I was the only one that started having this problem...Its odd that it just started about a month ago. I thought it was from dropping it, I dont do often... Hope this works

Re: Hardware Keyboard - Characters repeat

I also started to experience problems with my keyboard producing double characters while typing out a message and it started about a month ago...as a matter of fact I was talking to someone about it yesterday and was thinking of Hard Resetting my Mogul...until I came across this fix today...hopefully it will resolve the issue.

Does anyone know what exactly this fix does to fix the problem?

Thanks,

Shaolin77

i did a quick search and people say that it installs a new keyboard driver. im not exactly sure what that means but this fix basically omits the extra key presses, it really does work great

have you installed it and has it worked for you?

keyboard fix wont work unless its a software issue whereas most of ours are hardware related. I just had VZW send me another 68 and it was BNIB dated 5-18-09 BTW. I mean it is spanking brand new.

Yes the keyboard fix does resolve some issues with texting, however lets just be honest with ourselves. Although HTC does make decent phones, the keyboards on their phones suck big time. They use the same crappy flat button keyboards on nearly all their models, and you must either be female or have small fingers in order to use it properly.

When I had the titan, the keyboard fix worked very well and prevented double letters, but I found it particularly hard to press the letters after I installed it. It would sometimes skip the letters that normally would double up when I was typing fast, which became very annoying. I swapped my mogul for a new one and the issue was gone.

Re: Hardware Keyboard - Characters repeat

THE ONLY REAL WAY TO FIX THIS IS:

Go to sprint and get a new phone. Their is NO permanent fix for this issue. It will be an ongoing issue. It has happened to just about ever mogul I have owned except 1. Assuming you have insurance, Sprint WILL replace your phone for this issue. I have tried and got a brand new Titan.

The keyboard fixes *can* work...but they usually go back to double letters *or* leaving letters out that you pressed.

Don't think getting a Touch Pro will fix your problems either, the TP has their own brand of keyboard faults as well.

thx dark, i was thinking of picking up a TP recently myself...my mogul is biting the dust again and I am thinking I might finally want to progress forward. kinda scared to shy away from WinMo though....I really like all the features *sigh

+1 for the heads up though on the TP.

The keyboard data ribbon apparently gets loose or something and creates major lag and freezes in input. Eventually you have to start pressing really hard on the space key for it to register your keys and after a while the keyboard completely dies. I've had this happen once already, and there are a ton of threads on the TP forum with people complaining about the same thing, hahah. I'm so disappointed that HTC can't get their design/quality up to par as I myself love the WM platform was well.

The letter O I U would stick on mine. If it were random letters then yeah I would say software related. But when it is the same keys over and over, its hardware related.

same with me on my mogul, the vowel letters tended to stick a lot more, especially the o i u buttons. b's as well for some reason.

I have the same issue. Characters either repeat or don't register at all. This is occurring on a refurbished Mogul I received last week after the Wi-Fi went out on my first phone. Taking it to the Sprint store tomorrow. Going to beg for a Touch Pro.

I have a brand new refurb mogul (kinda an oxymoron huh?) but it does this as well.. Its never been dropped whatsoever its less than 48 hours old.. but I must say I love my touch pro keyboard.. Had it since December with no issues

mine started doing this double letter thing right after flashed so i hope its just a driver issue

Re: Hardware Keyboard - Characters repeat

Hard reset or flash again to see if it is resolved or if you have other issues.

Wow, I was shocked to see this thread here, I wasnt even looking for it, but I too have had this problem.

I got a refurb Mogul/Titan from Sprint last saturday in replacement for my old Moto Q9c (went through 4...all defective). But as SOON as I got the device it was doing this, I thought it was just a result of the learning curve but 7 "G's" shouldnt pop up because of one press. So now, after a little bit of arguing Sprint is sending me an HTC TP free of charge

Mine developed the same problem about a month a go and an initial install of the above Titan key fix file seems to be helping....

Mine had this issue about a month ago (7th replacement btw), it was a new issue that I saw only with that phone, I sent it back and got another replacement, I have not seen that issue yet...

HAHAHA! mine (the 4th one) stared doing this so I got yet another one from warrenty. Hopefully number 5 hangs around for awhile! And all this time I thought I was special!

Re: Hardware Keyboard - Characters repeat

The Titan keyboard fix cab cleared up the repeating characters for me (install cab and reset). My friend's Mogul has the stock Alltel ROM and it will not allow the cab file to install, because it can't uninstall the existing one. Any ideas how to get around that without installing a custom ROM?

Re: Hardware Keyboard - Characters repeat

FWIW...my phone was doing the same thing, and I tried to turn it into sprint, but because the case had a small crack, they wouldn't let me exchange it.

So....I took the whole phone apart and used some electronics cleaner and a Q-tip on the keyboard plug, and reseated it firmly, and the problem disappeared.

I don't recommend this fix unless you are already out of warranty/no insurance/etc, but it worked for me.
