Stuck in soft-reset loop. Help Please.

Device: HTC Mogul/Titan/6800
Rom Used :_HTC Mogul (Sprint)_RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3.56.651.0_RS_TITAN_ 3.42.02_SPCS2.04_PPST_0718_Ship

Device Information
ROM Version : 3.56.651.0
ROM date : 06/16/08
Radio Version : 3.42.02

I checked out the numerous threads, but it seem's that none fit my exact problem. All I did was update my ROM from the official HTC website. I also took out my SD card, as some threads suggested.

The device will randomly freeze and be stuck in a reboot loop for a indefinate amount of time, sometimes it will reset once, and get to the today screen, sometimes it'll take hours.

I have already done a hard reset, it did not seem to help. If someone could troubleshoot my device, it would be greatly appreciated. If any additional information is needed, please state what and where to find it, and I will post asap. Thanks.

Try a reflash.

How would I go about doing a reflash?

Reinstall the update you installed

Do what you did before with the rom you got from HTC. Pretend as though you had never done it before and go through the steps of upgrading to the HTC provided rom.

Ah, I have done that twice, same problem.

This may sound random, but does it boot differently when plugged into a charger? I had a titan that indefinately rebooted unless I rebooted while plugged in to a wall/usb charger.

In that particular case I was in my newbie days(I still am) and had tried to flash the wrong rom. The update failed, but left my phone unable to boot without a power supply.

It seems the most stable when plugged into a USB (I charge using my PC, normally). It stays "stable" the longest, however random resets/freezes + soft reset loops still occur. Also, when I receive a call/send a call, it will reset.

I see 3 options at this point:

1) You take your phone in and get it replaced (hopefully under warranty)
2) You try to find the stock rom that came with your phone and install that.
3) Consider unlocking your phone and flash a custom rom that someone here has made.

Thanks. I cringe at bringing it in to get it replaced, it would be a last resort type thing. Perhaps I will try option 3. Are there any stable/suggested programs used to unlocking and roms to flash it to? All I really want is to have a phone that will dial out and receive calls until the TP2 comes out ;/.

Why do you cringe at getting it replaced. If you have insurance it will be free.

If you do option 3, here are the resources needed:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=32382

This is where it all started for me. I read through it all first so that I knew what I was getting in to from start to finish. I downloaded all the tools needed and did it. If it is half as scary for you as it was for me to flash a custom rom, then you need a hug right about now. Good Luck.

Re: Stuck in soft-reset loop. Help Please.

Thank you, I will look through it and give it a shot. I figure the phone is boned anyway, and I lost all my contacts already, so I am fearless in tinkering with it, haha.

@drewcam888 - The last time I brought it in, they took a week to "diagnose" that it wasn't repairable and mailed me a new phone. Neither would they give me a temp replacement because they said it would be a "speedy" process. If none of the rest work, I will bring it in, as a last resort.

Oh thanks. I was planning to tough it out for a month or two for the Touch2, but it seems to be a much bigger problem then i can possibly endure.

Re: Stuck in soft-reset loop. Help Please.

Apparently it's a 100$ deductible to replace my phone, and they are unable to "downgrade" and give me one of those free cheap phones they just give away when people sign contracts.

I brought the phone to the sprint store, the tech HARD RESET IT, then say's he can do nothing more and I need to file an insurance claim due to me having dropped it. I totally flabbergasted, what exactly am I paying extra per month for insurance for? Seems like it's time for a new carrier. Thanks for everyone's help here.

Did you tell him you dropped it or is there physical damage on the phone.

Re: Stuck in soft-reset loop. Help Please.

I did tell him I dropped it months ago, but the soft reset problem started recently. I don't see how it would affect the software. The little plastic piece that is a "quick key" for IE and something else came off when the drop occurred. He is stating he can not repair it due to this, although he gladly did a hard reset on my phone.

Sounds like your tech was just being a ****. I got my mogul replaced way back that looked like it's been through 2 world wars. Dings and scratches all over the face and corners. I definitely dropped it onto pavement from hip level several times. When I walked into the store because the phone had keyboard issues where it kept on repeating letters, they replaced it no questions asked. They just took my phone, walked into the back and told me to come back in half an hour. By the time I came back they told me they already placed an order for a new phone and a couple days later got a refurb.
