To use the IR you might as well change the channel by hand since your that close.

I agree,
I used to try these programs with other PPCs and while I have not tried with the Mogul yet (or ever with previous experiences) the IR is not nearly strong enough to change the channels. You can probably do a neat media thing though and use it with some kind of local web interface through your wireless network. I can do that with XBMC and change songs and stuff and thats pretty neat.

THIS is probably the best out there. You should try it to see if it works well on your device. I tried it on my Treo and it works ok. The programming is infinite and very nice. The IR signal strength on Treo is actually not bad at all, I can change channel or volume of my TV at about 8 feet away. The real problem for me is that the IR signal from PPC is too narrow, which means you have to aim it very accurately towards the TV IR receiver in order to work at that distance. A lot of people mistake this as weak IR strength. But overall, it is a novelty and will not completely replace your trusty remote.

i tried noviiremote. said it didn't support the mogul

had noviiremote on my apache. although programming and gui were great. it was practally useless at more than 3 feet away.

The i730 had a good built-in program, and worked at a good distance. I heard this had a much weaker IR, but it works good for transfering files over from my i730

Yes it sure did, has anyone been able to get that ap off the i730?
