Backup Contacts.
I am trying to backup my Contacts on my Mogul. I have tried to use the actisync, but when I did I lost all of my contacts and then had to reinput 160 contacts. I setup the phone and then synced and it erased everything. I then thought the contacts would be in Outlook, but nope they were gone.
Is there a way to just backup my contacts, so I dont risk loosing them again. Re-inputing so many contacts is a hassle. ohyeah it must be free. I cant afford any apps,. |

If you want to use spb backup. Custom the backup by switching to advance mode then selecting PERSONAL DATABASE only. This way you can backup all your contacts and calendar infos. Now the only way for you to not input contact over and over again is making sure you dont lose the backup or delete it :D

Umm I dont think that this is necessary. First of all, we use this site to get our questions answered not to get upset with people who asked the same questions. I dont know what you have against the guy but please be more nice. |
"stealing a post??!"
it's nappy time for one certain sleepy baby. |
I can see the point of the OP, there is alot of threads like this, you open the therad you ask the question and you wait for help, then of the sudden someone ask different question in your thread and you see your thread going in different direction and you end getting nothing. but it doesnt mean that the OP had the right to call him names.

I did the same thing, active sync and lost all my contacts that were ported over by sprint from my old phone. now i'm using yahoo to store all my contacts so I have an always available backup on-line and Y!Go to sync. works like a charm, just disable contact syncing from outlook if you use exchange.

xmlContactsBackup
I never trust ActiveSync to do anything right, so I keep my contacts backed up with xmlContactsBackup. It's a tiny little freeware app that backs up every contact to xml files. You open it up, hit the BACKUP button, select the contacts you want to backup, and it will put each contact in to it's own XML file. Then, if you ever lose your contacts, you just hit the RESTORE button and select the contacts you want to restore. I transferred all my contacts from my xv6700 to my Mogul with this app. Nice simple free app.

Extending this topic a little... Does anyone know of a plug in that will allow me to back up my entire device so that if I perform a hard reset (and restore factory settings) I don't have to re-install everything and re-voice tag?

I used to use Sprite Backup on my 700wx, which does exactly that.
I haven't tried it on the Mogul so I don't know how well it works. |
well
Actually, wideawake and I just backed up my 6700 last night, so I could get widows mobile 6 on it. The thing is, the backup will not go onto windows mobile 6. So I'm basically screwed, lol. But I think the backup program was from ppcwarez.org! (It's called Sprite something, lol)

You can get a free app here that backs up contacts with a few other things. It works great if that's all you need to back up. I use SPB Backup for normal backups as well.

Here is the file that I used. Just perform an activesync connection with your computer. When the activesync screen comes up, there will be an option at the top that says "explore". Click that. Double click My Windows Mobile-Based Device. Then, windows and finally start menu. Unzip the file and put it in this directory. I just deleted the help shortcut out of there. And there you have it. When ever you go into your start menu, it will be right there. You can use PPCPimbackup to backup appointments, call logs, contacts, messages, speed dials, and tasks all at once or one at a time!! Just fantastic. Nothing else needed. |
