I tried the Intent manager, but I kept getting unhandled Java exceptions while running the Gmail app. I've resorted to using the regular GMail site with the Opera beta. Has been working well for me.

I prefer the way Gmail groups conversations

In some cases I need to be able to search all my emails, I've not tried to download the thousands of email I retain but I don't think it would be efficient.

The Intent JVM seems to be less stable then the Esmertec one already included on the phone. The main kicker for me is that the soft keys don't work in the Intent JVM.

Yea I only check my email on my phone at certain times, when I need a certain message and so on...so I perfer to use the java app over using internet explorer. and I perfer the java app over outlook because i only need to view maybe 1 or two messages and not the 1000's that I have.

The Intent Java Midlet works on my 6800 but it is not perfect. Here's a couple of things I have noted.

I regularly get "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Cause Unknown" most often when I am using the softkeys to access the Menu or to go Back. Normally I can select Dismiss on the error and continue on with what I wanted to do. It seems that I can use the touch screen to select Menu or Back or any of that functionality without running into the java errors.

The app is also not very good with changes in screen orientation. If I open the app in portrait and switch to landscape it does not expand to take advantage of the full screen

But its 80% good at least and conversation grouping is such a big deal for a couple of my accounts that I can put up with the wrinkles.

Do you get notifications using this app?

New version of Esmertec Java works with Gmail!

I had given up on trying to get the certificate that gmail needs into the built-in Java on the Titan... Browsing through random stuff on the XDA-Developers site I found a CAB which was a newer version (Build 20070622.2.1). Worked like a charm...

So if you don't mind giving up the storage space to install it over the ROM version, here is where you get the CAB:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...chmentid=46139

If we want to get fancy, we can try and determine which ROM files are the same and not overwrite those to save space... Also the executable could probably be UPXed to save some space.

Oh wow, TTT with this. I just revisited the post. I installed the CAB on this post, I now have 2 E- Java programs, but the first (with bad Gmail certificates) now works once the second one is installed. Is there any reason I should use the newer one? I can't seem to figure out how to make it stop asking me for data access everytime, where as the older one never asks me.
By the way, excellent fix for the GMail Java problem, now I use Opera Mini Beta 4.2 + Gmail + Ebuddy AIM - excellent

Geoff
I gave this version a try, but it seems to have just trashed Java. It loads up to a white screen, then exits immediately. Any ideas?

Edit: looks like it was a timebombed build... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326951
