No Data, No Pic Msging, No Smartphone Plan

Okay so let me clarify these points before anyone asks.
Flight Mode is not on
Wi-fi is not on
Bluetooth is not on
I have the Data connection set up as:
Dialing #777
xxxxxxxxxx@alltel.net
password: alltel
Connecting through: Cellular Line
I have arcsoft mms (latest, with all alltel settings)
I have the latest DCD Carrier cab from alltel
I have the latest PRL and PRI updates
My MIP settings are correct

Here is my device info:
ROM Version: 3.08.666.1
Radio Version: 3.42.50
Protocall version: 7500B-SDCAAXAM-4350H
Hardware version: 0003
PRI Version:2.01_011
Browser Version: MSIE 6.0
ESN: ********
Current Username: Blank (nothing there)
ERI verison: Blank (nothing there)

I know how to get into my EPST settings, and had to talk with alltel to get through manually changing all my MSID MNC and other settings.

I do not have a smartphone plan, but i have unlimited txt, pic, and video messaging. I cannot download the msgs due to the fact that:

When my phone goes to get a Data connection is dials...stays there for about 10 seconds, and says " Cannot aquire data connection blahblahblahBSBSBS."

can someone help? I will gladly donate 5 dollars to the person who can figure this out for me. I've tried switching ROMS, from alltel's latest rom to DCD, to my own. no luck.

so since u have no "phone plan" why is it you think you should get a data signal??? if your phone wont/cant dial out, your not gonna get data...

I was told I couldn't use my 6800 without a data plan. How did you manage to get them to put it on?

Re: No Data, No Pic Msging, No Smartphone Plan

just manually told them to activate my phone when i called them.

Okay, but doesn't most of the phones have data connections, too?
My Alltel Scoop had data, so i could recieve my pic msgs, so why can't i do it now?

You don't have a data pan and the service your not getting is normal. picture messages require "internet service.
I don't see a problem..

if you bought urs NIB from a store, it was mandatory to have umlimited data plan to get the extra $100 rebate.. if yours wasnt brand new and coming with a mail in rebate, i dont know why they told u that..

why do u keep saying smart phone plan? is that how altell breaks things down? on sprint if you had a TP without a data plan, but with pic mail, your pics would come in fine... even if you didnt have a pic mail plan and no data plan youd still recieve the pics, but it would charge you by the k/b for usage once you open it..

when i say smartphone plan, i mean data plan from alltel.

Thats what i was mainly concerned about though is the MMS. Just like a regular non-winmo or blackberry or palm phone, they all have data connections to get MMS and data (if applicable). I did not buy mine from the store or NIB, it was a used one from a friend in MN. It had Qwest on it, but i changed everything to the alltel settings. All of my mms settings are correct, and so are my data connection settings. Maybe it is because the phone was specifically set to qwest? Some internal thing maybe?

Afraid i cant be any help to you...but i wanted to thank you cuz i have been tryin to figure out why my MMS wouldnt work. Never dawned on me that i needed a username n password in the network settings.
I have entered "mynumber@alltel.net" and alltel as the pass...and sure as sh*t it works now. Ive trashed a few ROMs i realy liked becuz of this "issue" that wuz my own stupidity.

Sorry i cant help you but THANX THANX THANX!!! (ya i clicked thanx also, wpould click it 20 more times if i could!)

Is it possible that when your phone tries to connect(dials #777) and it hangs there for 10 seconds or so and gives you the "cannot connect" message, it is because the Alltel system is able to tell that you are using a phone that should be on a smartphone/data plan(Smart Choice Plan), and because it doesn't show that your on such a plan, it won't connect your data services for you?

Just a thought...not really sure though.

Do you have data blocked on the account? If so this is the problem. Use pay per kb for pic messaging. The phone has to be able to dial a data connection to send or receive the message. You won't be billed for data usage because the sever will see the usage as pic messaging. You will only be billed if you account is pay per pic message.

I was thinkin along the same lines as i drifted off to sleep last nite. Perhaps the way "smartphones" and the way "regular" phones like the scoop get MMS is different. Im not very knowledgeable (wow that word looks funny spelled rite) in the ways of cell technology. But i wonder if the smartphone uses the data connection to get the mms by loging into your "dataplan" whereas the regular phones use a "modified" SMS method to get MMS.

Duno if this is even close to correct but it would explain it i think.

Re: No Data, No Pic Msging, No Smartphone Plan

Hm. That could be possible. But the only way i could think of that would be that when the Msg is sent, or im trying to connect to data via #777, it recognizes the ESN number when sent to a tower, recognizes my phone as a "smartphone/PDAphone" and will not let it connect.

I see what you are saying.

Like I said, I'm switching to a new plan soon, and hopefully scoring a TP.
Unlimited Data 500 anytime blahblahblahblahblahblah
