Question Disabling WiFi sleep mode when screen goes off (wm6.1)???

I have Skype beta 2.5 on my Sprint Mogul (PPC6800) running on wm6.1. Skype, however, requires the wifi to remain on if you want to receive calls. But when my phone's screen goes off the wifi gets disconnected so skype goes offline in which case one can call me if I want them to call me from wifi using skype.

Also, when I am making a Skype call, I want to be able to turn off the screen (or the phone will turn it off after a minute) to save battery, but then the wifi goes off and skype call gets disconnected.

I have tried skype's settings to tell it not to let system go into standby mode and I have tried to change my wifi settings by selecting the non-battery saver mode called "performance." None of these works. When the screen goes off, so does the wifi, and skype becomes unavailable for use.

Can some one tell me a registry tweak to disable the phone from turning off the wifi when the screen turns off? Thank you.

Easy, go to Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Advanced and untick those options to turn the device off.

From there you can go to Start -> Settings -> System -> Backlight and set it to turn the backlight off after a few mins but the device would still stay on because of the power settings.

Doing this only dims the back light: it does not completely turn off the back light in which case if the phone is in your pocket, touching the screen will keep turning on the screen despite enabling the touch screen lock.

I want to be able to turn off the screen completely by pressing the power button once (not to power off the device), but this will turn off the system including the WiFi. I would appreciate any other suggestions about how to turn off the screen completely without turning off the device's WiFi. Thank you.

Re: Disabling WiFi sleep mode when screen goes off (wm6.1)???

theres no wifi sleep mode on a mogul..

i use wmwifirouter all day long everyday, so of course my phones screen goes into sleep mode, my wifi stays on all the time...

and why does your skype use wifi, that kinda defeats the purpose saying youll have a normal data signal way more often than a wifi signal

I meant that when I press the power button once to turn off the screen of device (to save battery), the wifi turns off and loses its connection until I turn on the screen. Then it starts scanning for available wifi connections again. But I need the wifi conncetion to stay on regradless of whether the screen is completely turned off or not.

When I am indoors at my work, Sprint does not have reception at my side of the building where I work. So I have to use my work's WiFi to connect to the internet and Skype to make calls. In any case, Skype works best on cell phones through a good WiFi connection. I do have unlimited data, but Skype's mobile program gives a choppy connection using EVDO data plan even if I have good reception.

I also intalled wmwifirouter v0.89, but it never worked on my phone. Instead of connecting o my laptop, it would connect to other available free wifi's as in wifi hotspots, which makes no sense. I am still tring to figure out how to remove wmwifirouter program without a hard reset.

Any other suggestions?

Does anyone know of a program that would allow your phone to connect to wifi using the built in blue tooth in the device? I think the bluetooth does not turn off even if the device's screen is turned off.

Re: Disabling WiFi sleep mode when screen goes off (wm6.1)???

ok, i just tested mine as im typing..

i use wmwifi v120 as cellular to wifi

my backlight setting on battery power and external power is set to go off after 30 seconds.. it does this both with wmwifi is on screen and when Xed out and running in backround

next i tested using the standard device lock plug in and the side(power) button... when wmwifi is on screen or Xed out and running off screen and the device lock says unlocked even. tapping the power button on the side into sleep mode doesnt disconnect wmwifi from running... i tapped every button, answer, end, both soft keys, camera, comm manager, messaging, and web.. not one would wake the phone up and not one created any action what so ever...

im using wmwifi right now, its Xed out running in back round, and my screen is black and m pressing every button again, typing this out....

and to Shahriar, im pretty sure bluetooth and wifi are 2 completely differnt things and not interconnected very easily if at all...

Where did you get wmwifi v120 program? I searced and only came up with this website: http://dockapps.org/file.php/id/222 The older verions that are available here are an unknown file? Do you have a CAB version of wmwifi v120? Have you installed it on a Sprint Mogul? And can it be removed if I don't want it? Please let me know. Thank you

Re: Disabling WiFi sleep mode when screen goes off (wm6.1)???

Hi guys:

I found this program called PocketToolman 2. It has an option under "OS Tweaks" to enable the wifi to stay active even when the screen and the device turn off. The problem is that when I enabled the OS tweak for keeping the "wifi on when the device goes to sleep," it does keep the wifi on but somehow the connection is lost and wifi becomes jammed if I turn off the screen and let the device go to sleep mode and then turn the screen back on and try to use the wifi. Toggling the wifi on and off does not solve the problem, and I have to do a soft reset. So this program is a possible solution if this bug is worked out for the Sprint Mogul (HTC TyTnII PPC6800) running on wm6.1. Otherwise the program works great for many other tweaks that you may want to do.

If any one has any other suggestions about how to keep the wifi on when your screen and device go into sleep mode, please let me know. Thank you.

Re: Disabling WiFi sleep mode when screen goes off (wm6.1)???

Would this work when streaming satellite music too via cellular? I always hated that the backlight would stay on the whole time. I have lowered it but still, 4 hours of streaming doesn't leave much of a battery life for anything else. I have 2 batteries but still wish there was a way to shut the screen off without killing the apps.
