problems with WiFi
Ok, this is a strange one for any experts out there. I've got a wireless network at home (Linksys WRT54GS). The router is in my basement. I've got a Wireless Range Expander (WRE54G) on the main level of the house. My wife's laptop connects just fine to the network no matter where she is in the house. With my new Mogul, it seems like it will only connect thru the router, and not the Range Expander. I tested this by trying to connect to the WiFi from upstairs (too far from the router) and it will not see the network. However, if I am in the basement, it works just fine. I know the Range Expander is working, because I can connect to it wirelessley from the basement (going to the IP address of the Range Expander). Is there -anything- that would be different about the Range Expander that would let a laptop w/ wireless card connect to it with no problem, but keep the Mogul from connecting to it? WPA, MAC filter, channel, shared key, etc. is all configured correctly.
Any help and/or ideas are greatly appreciated. Greg |
Well the first thing is that Linksys sucks... I had that same combo and had to return it to BestBuy because of the lack of support from Linksys and issues with the firmware... anyway, that's my personal experience and opinion.
I do remember that the range extender said it was not compatible with all the devices, also, the extender does not exactly work as an Access Point... this could cause the 6800 not to recognize it if the 6800's wi-fi is not too 'advanced' (for lack of a better word). |
