Am I the only one that's wanting this? :)

If you ever get that let me now!!!
Such freakin huge icons .. WThuda!

Under "HKLM\Services\Power"
You can change the key ShowIcon to 1 and you will then have the battery icon in the bottom tray. I am still working to track down the other 3 icons. The HTC plugin is such a huge waste of screen space.

This didn't work for me.

I can set the registry value, but there is no visible change when I return to my home screen.

When I do a soft reset, the registry value is back to 0.

Maybe something I'm using on the Today screen is messing with it? Is there something else I have to do?

I'm using two things that change the Today screen from the default:
*HTC Touch Home Plugin.
*Threaded SMS

Wait a bit before you soft reset so that it writes the changes to the registry. I usually wait a few minutes but I don't believe you HAVE to wait that long.

That worked. I guess I was just too impatient: that was the main thing I wanted from those four icons and I'm happy to get rid of them. Thank you!

I included a screenshot of my Today screen which shows the battery icon in the bottom right corner since PerfectHybrid had asked for one. (I had to attached it inside a .zip folder because I am not yet allowed to post urls which is the method of posting images on this forum).

EDIT: I have taken the attachment down as stroths has posted the screenshot below.

Here is the pic draghn attached. I tried this and had it working, but disabled it as I did not want to use up all that space for a single icon. I would like to figure out how to get it in the top bar with the signal and EVDO icons.

Thanks for helping stroths!

I like this icon better than the default four icons that were on the Today screen. I like to see the battery status on the Today screen and this is a better alternative to me. I would be interested in getting that icon to the top as well though. I haven't found anything on my own in the registry that would enable us to do that, hopefully someone will find something.

I definitely would like to get that battery icon up top with the evdo icon too. Its such a waste down at the bottom. If anyone can figure that out it would be great...

Landscape view by default.

Anything I can do to get the screen to display in landscape view by default? I would like the screen to stay in the position that it goes in when you open the keyboard, no matter if the keyboard is open or shut.

@stroths: There has to be a way to extract a single battery meter to be on top, next to the EVDO icon. SmallMenu Plus has its own, and when I enabled to test it, it worked. However, SmallMenu Plus is worthless to me without the ability of mapping it to the Start key.

@dnthomps: Go to Start - Settings - System Tab - Screen and change the orientation of your screen there.

Yeah, that is all good, but when you open and then close the keyboard, it goes back to portrait. I would like it to stay in Landscape(right handed) unless I tell it otherwise.

Add me to list for a battery icon in the top bar. I really like the one thats included with iLauncher that creates a thin meter across the top bar, but it appears to be slowing the phone down a lot, and there's always a few second delay for it to display when the phone wakes up.
