No Sound Through Earpiece Speaker

I bought an XV6800 for my wife for Christmas. After getting it activated, we found that we cannot hear calls on the earpiece speaker. The dialing sounds come through fine but then nothing. Happens whether we initiate the call or are called. If I hit "Speaker On" then I can hear the other party through the speaker phone. Plugging in a headset also enables me to hear the call. But nothing seems to activate the earpiece speaker.
I'm a newbie to this phone and WM6.1 but I can see anything in any settings that would cause this. I have done a hard reset but the problem persists. Verizon Tech Support says that there is nothing in their problem database on this. Since I didn't buy it form them, I'm a bit stuck if i can't figure out what's going on.
Any ideas?

Did you buy it used from a friend or someone else or from a 3rd party dealer????

It was bought on eBay. The seller has no receipt and since it wasn't purchased form Verizon, they won't exchange it.

Thats true. the only way to exchange is to have insurance and you can only do that when purchasing the phone through them. I suggest you talk to the guy you ebayed it from! That is because thats how it was when you bought it, right??????

The seller has been somewhat helpful but I haven't heard from him in a few days. I don't think he'll agree to take the phone back which is why I'm soliciting advice on this forum. It seems like someone else must have had this or a similar problem. I don't know if the phone worked correctly before WM6.1 was installed. Is there somewhere that I could download WM6 to see if that resolves the problem?

The rom shouldnt disable anything especially the earpiece! Its gotta be a hardware problem. I have a spare mogul from sprint. The same exact phone internally, Just the outside casing looks different. I'm pretty sure I still have the earpiece speaker if interested.

i had that problem when i was messing around with QPSD. i changed some of the settings and had no sound out of the ear piece. maybe someone smarter than me can post up some reg hacks to increase the vol to the ear piece. that may fix your problem.
