Can I Surf Using the Wifi on 6800 Disconnected from Sprint?

Sorry for the long title. I have a Mogul from Sprint that is about to be sold. I have already switched over to my new Sprint phone. What I wonder is if I can still use the Mogul to go on the internet using the wifi radio? I have it recognizing my home network, but the phone is trying to dial #777 and won't default to the wifi. Can you answer this please?

Did you try turning off the radio in the Comm Manager?

Go into Settings, then click on the Connections Tab. There will be a few options in there for you to play around with. First try disabling the Cell Radio in Comm Manager. If that doesn't work, go into Connections > Advanced and change your automatic network by clicking Select Networks.

I tried turning the cell radio on and off and on. The configure wireless networds page is recognizing my network, but is saying it is unavailable. I am getting the send/receive arrows on the little wi-fi symbol in the taskbar. But network is said to be "unavailable".

Just tested my 6800 in airplane mode. Turned on WiFi and I was able to discover and connect to an access point. Once connected, I was able to surf.
You might have a hardware issue?

Go to comm manager and disable data connection. then try the wifi.

Phone keeps trying to connect to Sprint PCS when I attempt to surf. In the Comm Manager, the icon that looks like an envelope is gray and the icon that looks like a mogul device is gray. When I turn off the phone receiver icon (in the comm manager), the bars disappear from signal meter and the wireless Lan recognizes my network, but says it is unavailable.

I wonder why it doesn't default to connecting through the Wi-fi?

Try this first......
Turn on wifi and connect. go to comm manager and disconnect data connection. then when the sprint connection trys to connect keep clicking cancel. it will ask you about 4 to 5 times. then you will just have wifi connected. i just tried it and it worked.

After the hard reset, the phone is not recognizing any networks - set to accept all available. So I click to set up new network, my house one, after I name it, the setup ask for the "Network key". I called the Sprint tech people and she said that that is provided by Sprint and the wifi won't work until the phone is activated. ???

The Network Key is the password that you have set to your router so people wont steal free internet via wifi from you. If you know the password, put that in the Network Key text box.

Don't listen to them stupid reps. WiFi radio has nothing to do with the cellular radio. Most of them reps are nothing but idiots. The code is provided by Sprint? LOL! The code is for your router. If you didn't set one up then look under your box, it is under there.

You are absolutely right. I opened IE again, after entering my home key, and the updated page loaded. But after I tried to load a second page, nothing.

But it is apparent that the Sprint person didn't know what she was talking about because my internet page opened to current news. I have the phone radio off. Under the wlan settings I entered my home network number and voila, I was connected! Partially, anyway. So now I am able to connect to the internet on the off network 6800. To refresh, I did do the hard reset. And I did turn off the phone radio so that it quit trying to contact #777.

It didn't make sense to me either. So is the number under the cable modem or under the wireless router I have sitting next to it? Is it the mac id #?

Thanks.

You are supposed to set up the network password when you install and configure your Router. Most people just plug it in and go, hence the reason there are so many unprotected wireless networks in any given neighborhood. Look up your router online (D-Link, Netgear, whatever) and find the documentation. It will tell you how to get into the router configuration, usually by typing 192.168.0.1 into your browser. They might list a default password. If not, you can always reset the router using a pen in a small hole somewhere on the back of the router. Hope this helps.

I just don't get why this won't work. The phone could be used as a sweet little PDA and internet surfer when around hotspots if the network key was provided. I'm not want it for this since I have a Touch Pro and since the phone is too good to have hanging around for this, but I'm just saying.

I like how most people leave WiFi unprotected. Here in Cali you can go anywhere and almost always get a WiFi signal. I like Pocket WiFi Radar.

Another way to change password is go to 192.168.1.1, password is asally admin or admin1

If it is a netgear wireless router you can login to the router by typing routerlogin on the pc bowser (no http://), then look under settings/wireless settings for the network key.

Login name is usually "admin" and the password is "password"

I agree, I remember when I started out with my 6700 and called about something and it let to a wifi v/s data arguement with some chick rep. She kept telling me i would be charged for wifi and I kept trying to explain to her how I wouldnt. She was such a retard and ignorant. I guess she never had a wireless router or laptop in her lifetime.

WiFi is so easy on these units, I cant believe 3 pages later and you guys dont have this fixed yet. Do I need to come over and do it for you???? LOL

I also have no problem surfing with either my deactivated Tpro or Titan. I have my home network set up with wep key already, I just turn on the wifi and go. It usually tries to connect to the data network once or twice, but cancel usually stops that.

Is the network adapter set on internet or work? that can foul up browsing. its something to check.

Same here. I love "testing" them and the stupid guy kept saying, "Yes you will be charged for every KB of usage, as well as when using ACTIVESYNC over USB!" I never had laughed so hard. I demanded to speak to a manager, not because I believed him but because if they tell a lot of people that then people who don't need a data plan are gonna buy it. So the manager said "No you do not. And I am sorry for my employee misleading you!".

I seriously wanna get a job at Verizon and tell new customers all their dirty little tricks. I will reccomend them to Sprint or AT&T! The manager at the store here, who is very nice to me and my family told me I oughta work their to help people with "advanced phones" (PDA phones).

Anyhow, if you ever have questions, come here to PPCGeeks. Most users know a lot more than the "techs". Sprint and Verizon reps don't know a thing. The only thing they're useful for is getting a replacment phones or resetting your account.
