Had thought about splicing a mic like this, but was worried about echo in voice calls. Have you been on the phone while driving yet? Do people seem to think it's to echoey or that there's too much road noise on their end?

Nice work, btw!"

I just got back from vacation. A 700 mile drive 1400 round trip. I used my phone as the only source for music and gps. I talked on the phone thru my handsfree setup for over 3 hours total during the trip and I did not have any complaints about feedback or echo, I only had the volume up loud enough to hear the person on the other end.

I used the cd-ipbus input found on almost all pioneer head units there was a schemeatic i found on google "pioneer cd player pinout" http://stereophonik.com/gutterslide/IP-BUS_Hack/ that i used to get the audio into my deck. I hacked up the connector that came with the mogul the usb/ mini 2.5mm jack splitter thru help from here and trial and error i got what I was looking for and it cost me only stuff i already had laying around and some spare time.

I posted the schematic of the usb connector/2.5mm jack's wires and what they go to color coded a few posts up.

That's cool gator, what gps software are you using (in the video) and where can I get it? It looked simular to Garmin. Are you on Sprint or Alltel? Gotta great setup in your truck! I used to tinker around with stuff like that, but 4 kids and a little bit of age puts a cap on fun like that.

Yeah I understand. I want to be a kid as long as I can b4 I have kids. The gps software that I am using is the newest garmin mobile xt, with the 2009 navigator map set from garmin. I have Sprint as my carrier. I am on the everything 450 plan as i don't use that many minuates working a 12 hr night shift but i do use a good bit of data and the other features to need an everything plan.

Alright, I think I'll have to move ahead on this if echo isn't an issue.

And I'm no parent yet though an uncle many times over. When I'm a daddy you can bet the bank I'll still be doing stuff like this with the kids. I had an aunt that used to do all her old geeky hobbies with me. She had a knack for making everything interesting. I grew up to be the guy everyone asks to fix things.

I'm using the HTC Touch Pro trying to do the same kind of setup. It seems that in order to get my phone into headset mode, I have to connect 'Mic -' and 'LG,RG' together. The 'S' line is used for the switch. When I connect the 'S' line to ground without pulling 'Mic -' to ground, my phone goes into video output mode. I couldn't find any documentation on this stuff and I thought that this info may help anyone else trying this kind of project.

Good work on the car connection! Looks like a kludge, but that's just the way I like it :)
