Using Sprint Mogul on Verizon?
Hi guys,
I'm on Verizon with a regular flip phone (Samsung SCH-U550) and my friend who uses Sprint is offering to sell me his Sprint HTC Mogul. He just upgraded to a Touch Pro, which I wish I could own but the Mogul is not bad from what I can see. The only problem is that I've been trying to figure out if anyone's gotten a Sprint Mogul onto Verizon, and despite Verizon's pronouncement last year of allowing any devices, specifically including stuff from Sprint, onto their network, I keep finding threads from summer and earlier about how people couldn't get Verizon to activate their Sprint Moguls. I was wondering if anyone has been able to do this, because I would love to get the Mogul. My friend said the following: "It's got a cracked spl so you can load up verizons firmware. It's still got a sprint esn though" Will I be able to get this phone onto Verizon? Also, if I switch to that phone they won't try to force me into buying a data plan will they? I really want this phone because it's one of the few wifi-enabled phones on Verizon, and since I'm in college I have wifi basically everywhere. Thanks for the help. |

Re: Using Sprint Mogul on Verizon?
Hahah... I really have been searching a lot about this today, so sorry if I missed anything.
Oh wait, I saw that thread. It's pretty old though, which is why I asked the question if anything has changed recently. Also, I asked because this guy http://www.howardforums.com/showpost...46&postcount=1 seems to have gotten it to work, and his post is the most recent on the subject that I found. So I was thinking maybe the guys here might know more. |

Re: Using Sprint Mogul on Verizon?
ok, to answer the question. yes vzn will activate your phone. you will need to flash it to there software and call tech support and ask to have the ESN added to the DMD(device management database). tell them the phone is already setup for vzn. this will take some time and depending on who you talk to may take a couple for phone calls. i have a alltel 6800 on vzn. they told me they would call me once it was added but i never got that call and only found out it was added by doing the internet ESN switch. so call and keep on them. it will take up to 10 days to be added but check it once a day and if after 5 days it isnt hooked up call them back.

Re: Using Sprint Mogul on Verizon?
Cool, thanks. How recent was this? I think I'll go ahead and buy the phone from my friend then, as long as the price he wants is reasonable. So the best thing to do is just keep trying, right? Legally they should be forced to allow me to add the device I guess.

Re: Using Sprint Mogul on Verizon?
I guess you're probably right, but it's the exact same phone anyway. I think worst case I have to try calling several different times until I get a nice person. I'm guess if I go to a store they'll see that it's Sprint and be annoyed. I guess they threw in that "network standards" loophole when they made the announcement about opening their network in case they didn't want to actually be held to that. I remember they even said "If a guy working in his basement can make a phone on a breadboard that meets our standards, we'll activate it" and I guess the trick was the standards. Anyway, I guess in the very worst case I'm stuck with a PDA, which isn't so bad except then I have to carry around two phones.

Re: Using Sprint Mogul on Verizon?
i had mine switched from alltel to vzn not more than 1.5 months ago. just unlock it, cook your own rom and select vzn as your carrier. then you need to check all the connection settings in EPST as well as create a connection for vzn and then call with your ESN. remember you want to ask to have a ESN added to there DMD. that should be it.
