Howdoya "click" a file to "select" it without "runnin" it?

Im messin with MortScript . Id like to copy AutoRun.exe out of the Windows dir, copy it to a new dir, and rename it to be a Dummy exe so I can get the STUPID xls file assigned to a softkey.

So I keep tappin my working MSCR file, and of course, it runs the damn program.....so I back out, copy paste, blah blah blah.....but theres GOTTA be a way to select without runnin...anybody?

the dpad is monotonous (sp?)...but the wheel....I'll give that a go. It also occured to me after posting that I could press&hold even if I don't want anything on the subsequent menu.....just gotta be smarter than the phone :D
