Cellcom Rom Update needed!!!

I would like to update my Cellcom HTC 6800, so I can turn on the GPS. Can this be done?

Re: Cellcom Rom Update needed!!!

hello, today i went into cellcom and i talked to a tech guy and he said a guy came in with a htc 6800 updated to 6.1 on us celluar and it wasnt able to work now its stuck with us cellular unless he goes into us cellular and pays to get it unlocked. he said cellcom has nothing to do with the updates and that htc puts them out. i am in the process of contacting htc and hoping to get them to release a 6.1 rom for our phones. i will let you know what i find out. im guessing maybe if we get enough people to complain that they will work on putting the now one up on their website

I too, am with cellcom. I brought in a copy of a newer ROM to one of their tech folks and he is testing it on the 6800 as we speak. He is going to let me know if it works on one of their test phones. If it does I will let you know. It will have WM6.1, radio 3.42.50 (w/gps), etc.

Of course it can work. Provide a stock cellcom rom, or a rom dump, and we can make 6.1 w/ GPS work with cellcom.

Re: Cellcom Rom Update needed!!!

Do we have to get the ROM from the carrier, or is there some way to "suck" it out of a phone?

There's a tutorial on xda-developers on how to use d2s to extract the images from your phone. You'll also (and most importantly) want to copy the ext_rom contents. You can use file explorer and ActiveSync to do that part. There is a 99% chance that the ext_rom contains all things related to your carrier.

I am also a Cellcom user. I have contacted my business rep and asked him to put me in touch with Tech Support so I can ask about ROM upgrades. I will post what I find out as soon as I know.

What I found out is you're not going to get any help from Cellcom. I will have to do some more reading in the forums and see if I can load a ROM upgrade from another carrier without "bricking" the phone

Re: Cellcom Rom Update needed!!!

I do think it is possible doing the following steps (I am assuming you want to use DCD's ROM 3.2.6).

1) Dial #778 SEND on the phone and write down ALL EPST data
2) Flash the phone with nueSPL 2.47 to unlock the phone
3) Flash the radio to version 3.42.50
4) Flash the rom to DCD 3.2.6
5) Run DCD's carrier cab for ALLTEL's network (I know cellcom is not alltel)
6) Dial #778 SEND on the phone and re-enter all EPST data

I am close to doing thiis myself.

Thanks for the Reply. When you say dial #778 Send what button are you using for Send? The Talk button?

Better yet, don't flash a rom that jerks with your epst settings in step 4. Then you can skip 1, 5, and 6.

Actually its ##778 or ##778# I first tried #778 and that didn't work for me just to view the info.

I too have Cellcom and need to get Windows 6.1 on the HTC6800 PDA. Does this work?

Trying to get 6.5 working on a Cellcom 6800. Is it possible to do this with the newest kitchen? Write down all EPST / internet settings, flash in the kitchen with Alltel as the carrier, and then change all the EPST settings to the ones I wrote down?

Re: Cellcom Rom Update needed!!!

After reading the faq here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436354
I wrote down all the EPST settings and hoped for the best, thankfully it worked! I only had to change a couple of the settings - a couple of the MIP settings were slightly different, other than that it worked right away. Phone is running the latest titan build of 6.5, and pretty well I might add.

Re: Cellcom Rom Update needed!!!

i just recently updated my moguls to WM6.5. one of the main differences it is more finger friendly then wm6. new slide like home screen. no more start menu when you hit start you get your program list. threaded text. new slide lock and password screen with notifications. gps is also enabled so you can install an app like iNAV or TOM TOM and be able to get directions without being on the net. ability to disable camera for high memory mode. on fresh restart i have just about 27.5 MB of RAM. pretty good id say and then i run oxios hibernate and have 29 mB. im glad i took the plunge. theres no need for all the today plugins anymore as they are built into the default home screen. highly reccommended and if you need help ask.
