Messages appear "read" when they have not. (Alltel 6800)

How can my messages that come to my Alltel 6800 stay “unopened”? In other words, I notice that if the message gets into my computer Outlook first, it appears already read on the 6800 even if I have not opened on the computer first.

I want my messages to appear “unopened” on my 6800 and computer.

How can I change the setting to reflect this?

Are you using the stock ROM?

It is ROM version: 3.35.671.9
ROM date: 04/09/08

I do not know if it is Rev A or not.
