Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

Well, this may not be the place to discuss this issue, but I wonder if somebody here knows if the assisted GPS that the Touch Pro has which requires the network to work, could also be configure to work independently of the Sprint network, ansd work just as a regular GPS device.

Thanks

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

Hey, thanks so much! I just updated to the Alltel WM 6.1 ROM for my HTC Touch and I couldn't get any satellites to lock even with all the settings right and standing for about 15 minutes in the middle of a wide open field. I ran through this and everything works perfectly now. Lots of good karma coming your way!

PPC6900 > Radio --3.37 or greater

my (Verison) xv6900 says
ROM version 1.15.605.14
Radio version 1.60.30 Am I missing something here? Is the 6800 fix the same as the 6900? thanks again.

Not usre if you resolved this but the 1.xx and 2.xx radios are pre-GPS. You will need a 3.xx radio. For me 3.35.04 and 3.42.50 are the best...

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

3.42.50 > 3.35.04 because it gives your phone better cellular reception in marginal areas.

Re: Great info about Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

Great write-up and even better solution for my Alltel internal GPS slowness for lockon.

Followed Shadow-Tech's 11/08 notes exactly on my Alltel Touch and it is tremendously better and now I need a good GPS program like Tom Tom or other that I can load on my microSD card to get great navigation with text to speech and I'm happy as a lark!

Again, thanks for sharing such useful tech knowledge to us that have benefited from it.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

OK, I have been trying to get my GPS to work, but been unable. I have an Alltel 6900, Downloaded and installed WM6.1. Set my phone settings to "on". Set my gps to com4, none, 4800, yes.... Installed the quick connect and registry edits. Google maps show Seeking GPS Sats.. (0),and then says "your GPS receiver is having trouble tracking GPS satellites.
GPS requires a clear view of the sky in order to work; you must be outdoors"
and never finds any Sats.... Can anyone tell me what I am missing? Thanks

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

Hi, I just did this step by step and used the registry cab file. I am using radio 3.42.50.
When i open gpsviewer, i get alot of sats that pop up in red for a few seconds then the screen clears. the sats will go away and come back about every 5 secs, but they wont ever lock on completely. Google maps just says searching for satellites, and never locks on.
What should i check or do?
