Vista Sync Error - Solved
 

Hello folks. I am trying to get this working and need your help! I have an Alltel PPC6800 w\ no2chem 5066 and a laptop running Vista x64 SP1 Ultimate. I try to sync and it says connecting than it errors out. I go to Event Viewer and here is the exact error: Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code). HELP!!! Paul

By the way I have tried many things from drivers to the WMDC software to soft resets to even installing SP1. Nope.

WMDC does not play well with Vista......flaky as can be.....a few suggestions that have worked for me.....are as follows: delete any partnerships you have and delete the driver in device manger 2. Use another USB port. 3. Hard reset the phone. (3 always works the best for me).....

I had a problem also where it would not sync - I shut off Trojan hunter and Live Mesh......they seemed to interfere with connectivity...hope this helps...

Hmm I even hard reset now and it didn't work. I have been checking and I don't think I have any AV/AS running (I haven't installed anything beyond Windows and in Security Center it says it is disabled). Hmm. It is definitely Vista since XP Pro w\ AS 4.5 worked fine.

Ok I formatted and I made some progress. wmplayer.exe loads right up after the sync is almost established and then kills it then wmplayer.exe is gone right after killing the sync. I think I gotta figure out a way to fix it. Suggestions? My fingers are quick but my computer must be faster!

To switch between automatic and manual sync
After you've set up a device, you can switch to a different sync method at any time. Here's how:

Turn on your device and connect it to your computer.

In Windows Media Player, click the arrow below the Sync tab, point to the device, and then click Set Up Sync.

Clear or select the Sync this device automatically check box.

Do one of the following:

If you are switching to automatic sync, choose the playlists that you want to sync automatically. For more information, see "To choose what syncs automatically" earlier in this topic.

If you are switching to manual sync, choose the files or playlists that you want to sync manually. For more information, see Sync manually in Windows Media Player

I don't even see it. When I load WMP it breaks my sync. :\

Now that is weird...let me go check some settings and see if we can find you a fix....
