Bingo. Uninstalled HTC Home, threw the final HTC Home Customizer on, ran it, and let it download a newer copy of HTC Home. Reset and now I've got my device information back, can power down successfully, as well as change brightness. Didn't realize all the quirks were related. Thanks...
