Installing WMWifiRouter 0.91 on the new Sprint WM6.1 ROM?
 

I know that the 1.05 of WMWifiRouter has an alternate cab to install on WM6.1, but I was wondering if anyone had any luck installing 0.91 on WM6.1. Or what exactly is different about 1.05i that allows it to install to 6.1. Error message Installation was unsuccessful

0.91 works fine for me, but I had to change something in my registry. The new rom forces tethering to 'phone as modem,' You have to change the registry to force it to use 'sprint pcs' instead. I don't remember the exact change, but somewhere on this forum someone posted a cab file that fixes it for you. I just have no idea where, you'll have to look for it.

Unfortunately, whenever I try to install 0.91 the installation fails, even with the wifi switch is on.

As for the registry tweaks, are you referring to the ICS extension and the Multi NAI entries or something else entirely?

I haven't had any problems with installation, and I've done it a few times since I got 6.1 (due to several hard resets for another issue). As for the fix, its something new to deal with this specific ROM. Its just quick registry fix, but someone made a cab to do it just for convenience. I used it, but like an idiot I didn't save it.

Apparently I did save it, I just didn't realize it. My bad. lol Just remember to soft reset after you run it.

hmm even though i tried installing the reg hack, the installation still doesn't seem to go through. Do you install via cab on storage card or activesync?

I ran it from the storage card, but I ran it AFTER I successfully installed the program. This cab just enables WMWifiRouter to actually make a data connection without Sprint Charging you for tethering. Not being able to install the software is a whole other issue, and I don't have a solution for you on that. Sorry :(

well thanks so much for your help anyway, the cab you provided will no doubt help me out later on. :)

it seems that people have luck with a different .cab that doesn't include a setup.dll, is there anyway to recompile the .cab without this file?

To be perfectly frank, I'm a hardware engineer by trade, I know jack about software. lol I would assume so, anything is possible!

I figured it out! Well less so figured out than just found a cab posted on xda. Apparently someone recompiled v0.80 himself from an OEM which doesn't contain the setup.dll

Unfortunately this isn't 0.91 but WEP still works if you set it during the ad-hoc setup process.

Anyway thanks again for your help!

Hopefully if anyone else wants to look for the pre-commercial wmwifirouter and has trouble installing .91 they'll stumble upon this thread in the future

I have v .91 and w6.0 w/ 3.35 official rom

I've got wmwifi up and running smoothly however..

internet sharing setting is on phone as modem. Should this be sprint pcs?

I have done a reg edit that included removing the exten in the internet sharing folder

My understanding is that 0.91 was the last FREE version, and is quite stable. Anything after that I beleive had to be purchased.

I had no problems installing WMWifiRouter .91 on 3.56 and configuring it. I am having issues getting to the Internet. I have the ad-hoc setup like normal, PC connects to the wireless network with WEP, everything seems fine, but can't surf on PC or phone.

i have been using .89 for a while with no problems whatsoever. no configuring anything.

the only thing is that it doesnt have WEP, but thats fine. i only tether my ipod Touch and laptop every now and then.

Make sure the ad-hoc network "Connects to:" is set to "The Internet" and the 802.11 network card is set to connects to "Work". Also make sure the Use specific IP address is set to 192.168.0.1 and subnet to 255.255.255.0

If that does work try to delete the ad-hoc network and create it again with the wifi switch on.

If none of that works then theres probably something wrong with your ICS, so check to make sure it's connected and says "Disconnect" for the left soft key

I've been able to use WEP on 0.81 fine. You just have to adjust the settings of the ad-hoc network manually by selecting Authentication to Open and Data Encryption to WEP. Make sure your network key is a 10 digit HEX code like that only contains digits 0-9 and letters A-F

When I installed it, I didn't do any reg edit or anything. I only used it a couple of times but it always popped up a box that says phone as modem. I don't have a tethering plan and it worked. I didn't get any "mysterious add-on" charges to my bill either.

But I only used it a couple of times lightly. I don't know what would happen if you substitute this for your ISP or something like that.

HTC Touch Pro, with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (CE 5.2.19965 bld 19965.1.2.3)
Installed the Internet Sharing FIX.cab (Schwartz Tethering Fix), reboot
Turn on Wi-Fi, install WMWiFiRouter 0.91, reboot
Turn on Wi-Fi, start the WMWiFiRouter application, click 'Connect'

On my laptop, select the WMWiFiRouter SSID and click connect, BINGO!!!

Works great. See attached image below.
