Email, Auto Send/Receive then Disconnect

I would like to have my mogul do Automatic Send and Receives with my Gmail account, but I'm fickle about battery life. I don't want it to connect, then leave my connection on all day draining my battery. Basically i would like to either have it connect, check email, and immediatley disconnect... OR, check email everytime I manually initiate a connection. I found a way to set a time limit on data connections, but I don't want it to hang up on me when I'm actually using it (i.e. streaming radio). Anyone have a solution?

it's not elegant, but I use Arnaud Porterie's project pushmail 0.2
I'd post a link, but I think the site is down... (was just there a few hours ago)
this will only work for 1 email account, but there is a pay app pusheffect that will do multiple.

what happens is you have you email fwd to ###-###-####@messaging.sprintpcs.com and these apps, silently receive the sms and check your email.

I'm not really concerned with immediate notification of email... I would just like it to be there eventually without me having to check it. I know its being picky, but my phone is perfect in just about every other way, I want more! lol

I'll check out the program you suggested tomorrow, I'm off to bed now. Thanks!

if you're using the gprs disconnect you can set the timer to what ever you want...as far as streaming...it wont disconnect if you're streaming it only disconnects when its dormant

So you're saying that if I set it for 5 minutes, then it will only disconnect after 5 minutes of dormancy? As long as I keep using my data, it will stay active?

Any particular reason for avoiding Schap's Advanced Config? I've been using it since I purchased my phone, never had any issues.

By the way, i tried using Schap's to set a time limit for disconnecting, and its working perfectly. I set my gmail to send/receive every 2 hours, and set a disconnect time of 5 minutes. So, as far as this thread is concerned, problem solved!
