What is the White dot on the keyboard?
Does anyone know what the purpose is of the white dot on the keyboard? It is directly above the "I" and "U", roughly the same size as the soft reset hole.

Light Sensor For The Keyboard

Re: What is the White dot on the keyboard?
i think its the light sensor so the keyboard can tell if it needs to turn the LCD behind the board on or not.

that would be the keypad light sensor, so it can tell when to turn on the keyboard backlight. cover it with your finger and then press a key and you'll see the qwerty keyboard light up. :)

Ah, I see. I assume the purpose is to conserve battery life, although I bet it's trivial at best. I'm not going to use it though because it doesn't seem to b sensitive enough to pick up a dim lighting situation where it's nice to have that backlit keyboard.
BTW, is there a registry edit or .cab out there to have it put the backlight on automatically deending on the lighting situation without having to press a key? |

Anytime the phone is turned on and the keyboard is open the backlight should be on if you changed that setting. I believe the keyboard shuts of when the screen dims if the phone is getting ready to go to standby.
If it doesn't, the phone might be problematic. |
