Unable to connect to Verizon after ROM Update

Hey fellas,

So I followed multiple threads and such to update my rom and radio so I could use the GPS. Everything seems to have gone fine except for the fact that I can't place calls, I get the Verizon message "We are unable to Authenticate your phone blah blah blah". I did *228 btw after the update. Does it just take some time to go into effect or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks buds,
Marcus

you need to call Verizon and get a new 'aKey'... you tell them you hard reset your phone, and now it says you can't authenticate.....
you will only need to do this once, after your radio upgrade.. subsequent ROM flashes, you will not have to worry about this.

Thanks Nickles, I'm holding now. Is there any way to update the RAM of Verizons technical department to have them answer the phone faster, lol.

i've actually found their tech support to be pretty quick !
good luck either way. .dont' worry about writing the AKEY down that they give you.. it's a useless number and can only be used the 1 time..
hopefully you'll get a good tech on the line who will just make this a 2 minute phone call , instead of 20 minutes of troubleshooting..

He's doing a bunch of crap, Having me reboot and all. I dont want to mention the A key though.

What is the stock ROM on the XV6800? I know it is 2.09xxx, in case he asks, but what is it exactly?

EDIT: Im all set, after about 20 minutes he got it working. Thank god I'll never have to go through that again

Don't be surprised if you have to go through it again....I've had to hard reset twice, and both times with Verizon, I had to go through the "phone call". :(

An easy way to avoid this problem:

switch your activation to an old phone.

modify your xv6800

switch your activation to your xv6800

I used to go onto "My Account" on the VZW homepage all the time and activate/deactivate E815's. However, I was told that since I had a data phone now, I couldn't do that online. I know that the Verizon staff aren't always that knowledgeable, but I heard it from multiple sources and to be honest it sounds like a plausible explanation. You tell me though, It'd be great if I could avoid that call and just switch back to one of my old phones temporarily.
