Whats the biggest MicroSD Card
 

What is the biggest MicroSD card the 6800 will take and will it use the microsdhc cards as well.

It will use SDHC cards just fine. I believe the largest currently available card is 8GB. 12 and 16GB MicroSDHC cards are supposed to be coming out, but I don't think they are available yet.

SDHC goes up to 32GB... but it hasn't been made yet.

After 32GB, they will probably make anotehr SD class, like SDUC [ultra capacity] But the problem is the transfer speeds... MicroSD has an incredibly slow rate of transfer compared to a flash drive or a hard drive.

Makes you wish for the day when you can just pop open your phone and pull out the flash chip and solder in a new larger one and reflash your rom.

I think we will see phones come with larger flash capacity rather than larger SD cards. Given the slow transfer rate and unless they do something radical to pump this up, this should top out at 32 gig.

If you can do it and it works then why not and then it is one less card you would have to carry around. I mean if apple can do it why can't we.

Thats Flash Memory... not an SSD.

SSD's have MUCH HIGHER access speeds. Memory cards are SS [Flash]... but they transfer slower than Molasses going uphill in February [in Antarctica]

Flash IS solid state. However, solid state DRIVES are much faster than standard flash memory

AFAIK, no. The smallest SS drive I could find was a notebook PCI drive...

EDIT: It's interesting how he refers to capacities as Gbit and then to GB... 2 COMPLETELY different things.

1 Byte = 8 Bits.

Therefore when he refers to a 32Gbit chip the size of a fingernail, he is referring to a 4GB chip.

yes....32 Gbit was developed and can be doubled or multiplied to reach more than the 256GB limit. Up to 512.

Man when I bought my phone, I believe the guy told me the biggest SD I could use was 2gb. So that's what I bought. I wish I would of ran into this site earlier.

Just to confirm, I'm using an SanDisk 8GB with a 6800 and it works great. Had it for about 2 months. Got it off of ebay for less that $50 (2 months ago, probably less now).
