Problem With Mobile 6.1 and Active Sync

I recently upgraded my mogul to Windows Mobile 6.1 and when I plug in my phone to my computer via USB it tries to create a different mobile device rather than use the one I have been using. I changed the device ID under settings>phone>device ID to the name matching on the active sync program and it still tries to create a new account. If anybody could help me solve this problem that would be greatly appreciated because all my contacts are in that and it would take forever to ask everybody for their number again. Thanks in advance...

Edit: oh and also I tried to install the HTC Home plugin vers. 2.1 but it kept freezing up my phone on boot-up. Is the home plug-in compatible with windows mobile 6.1?

its stock i wouldn't get it if you havn't already...just wait for the official one or get a cooked rom. I couldn't use some of the programs such as the HTC Home plug-in and my activesync thought it was a different phone all together so it won't let me connect unless i create a new device which is why currently I have none of my contacts in my phone.

you need to create a new connection every time you flash or hard reset the phone. assuming you have already synced your contacts to outlook, it will sync them to the new connection. I always recommend backing up beforehand though, I have had activesync mess up and delete all my contacts before.
