Did my OS take a dump?

Hey, everyone!

I've been using the DCD 3.0.1 ROM on my VZW 6800 for a while now. Up till now, everying that I've used it for has been great! Lately, the phone would start to "lag" and "pause" on some of the phone items such as the call history. I was going to use the phone the other day and couldn't hear anything. I did a soft AND hard reset to remedy the issue without avail. I THOUGHT it was hardware related, but since messing around here are the symptoms:

Can't hear in earpiece
Can't be heard through Mic
BLUETOOTH works
PC won't recognize device through Active Sync
Can't put phone into speaker mode (either by holding send or on screen)
No sound (other than ringtone) come through Media Player, txt, etc.
Notification options:
Phone rings when it's called
Phone only VIBs when TXTs etc come through
Phone only VIVs on Alarm and other notifications

Again, everything up till now has worked FLAWLESSLY! I just can't wrap my head around this thing.

Thanks for your time and help!

I'd probably reflash.

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

Thought about that. But the PC won't recognize the device. When I go into bootloader by holding the power, cam, and reset button, it goes to the three-color screen. It also says USB on the device. But I can't get the PC to even give a notification that the device is actually CONNECTED to the PC. I re-ran the Update util, and it couln't find the device.

thanks for the reply!

you can flash via sd....format a 2gb or less sd card to fat32 rename the .nbh form the rom u like TITAIMG.nbh then put the phone into bootloader and this shoul flash it for u

OK, I did this.

The boot loader comes up as usual. I just stays at the three-color screen and says "Serial" at the bottom.

I formatted the 1gig sd card to Fat32
copied the .nbh to the card
renamed the .nbh to TITAIMG.nbh

No go. Wonder if I missed something. I will try one more time.

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

Yeah, still no-go.

I AM supposed to me using the 2.4 Olipro, correct? I don't need to switch back to the OEM bootloader?

Thanks.

Make sure you rename the .nbh file on your pc. before you do that, on your pc make sure you uncheck "hide file extensions for known file type"

Tools>Folder Options>View (tab)

Thanks for the heads-up! Even though it was checked, I unchecked the option (to make sure it would have the correct extention when I renamed it) and ran through the whole procedure again.

Thanks, btw, for everyone's time and input!

But it still won't load from SD.

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

did u place it at the root of the sd card?

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

I sure DID!

It was the only file I put back on the card after the format.

This is very bizarre...

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

This might be a hardware problem instead of software. Or either it's software, but you somehow semi-bricked it. I suggest you getting a replacement if nothing works.

I also suggest you try reinstalling active sync on your computer and try connecting it again. Also try using a different computer to do this to make sure it's not your PC that's acting up.

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

i would jsut try recopying the nbh over again and if this does not work...you might either need a new phone (you might want to check with smarter people then me) or try a differnt sd card

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

Thanks to all for giving it a valiant effort!

I tried a different SD card, and my other laptop wouldn't sync with it either. I'm guessing you are right about SEMI-BRICKing it. I called VZW, my replacement phone gets sent in the mail tomorrow, and should arive either Thursday or Friday!

I LOVE this Forum, and all it's great members for the fast, and acurate responses that I see all the time. Thanks a TON!

On a SEMI-NON-RELATED topic:

Is there anything better out there that I should be looking for in terms of ROMS? Am I OK with the DCD, or would you recommend another, and why?

Thanks again!

i recommend the kitchen its the best and extermely simple point and click and u get to be your own chef with the oems of your choice instead of the chefs choices

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

For some reason it's always SEEMED a little intimidating. Maybe because I've never actually SEEN one in action or PLAYED with one. I guess I wouldn't mind giving it a TRY. I just have a sense that it would be easier bricking your phone with a Kitchen ROM than with one that's tested?

Any links that you may have off the top of your head to help me get STARTED, at least?

Thanks

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

Try no2chem's rom. It's clean, it's fast and uses windows mobile 6.1. If there's any issues with bugs, no2chem pretty much corrects it right away. Simply search no2chem in this forum and you'll find it.

Re: Did my OS take a dump?

I dont want there to even be a hint of disrespect by this comment but, IMHO, if given the choice between DCD or No2Chem I'd choose DCD all day. Mainly because I did use the kitchen with 5067 build and I had major problems (had to get a new mogul). I can say for certain it was more than likely user error, but left a bad taste.

DCD has super clean stable ROMs thats not to say there hasnt been missteps... but then again you already know that
