just put my vogue through the wash, how's the titan?

i bought a Vogue on ebay a few weeks back, and totally loved it. using it with Telus where it is known as the 'Touch P3050'. Sadly, in a fine example Murphy's law of 'the things you love most are the things you are most likely to destroy through negligence', I put it through the wash this morning.

I was going to buy a new Vogue, but there's a Titan for sale in my city, auction ending today, so I could pick it up tonight.

How's the Titan compared to the Vogue? The keyboard looks like a bonus but are there any drawbacks I should be aware of?

Re: just put my vogue through the wash, how's the titan?

DONT DO IT!!!!!

If your coming from a touch, i think you will hate it.

If you already had a titan, i would say different...

but who knows you may like it....

see the phone comparison section here, there are TONS of head to heads on the vogue vs mogul....

Dont let anyone talk you either way, make sure you get what YOU want to get...there are mogul and vogue fanboys that will bash the other one, (lol who am i to talk), simply put both have their pros and cons, go read about them and then make YOUR DECISION!!!

Can't believe I'm saying this (lol) but I agree.

If you liked the Touch before, probably a good idea to stick with it.

Both are excellent devices (esp. with the custom ROMS) but they are distinctly different. There are compelling reasons to chose one over the others but it totally depends on your preference (ie. what's more important to you... keyboard, size, weight, wifi etc...)

just dont start a "Which is better" thread. ;) success! But like the man said, its all personal preference, and there's lots of threads that have great info. Both are great phones. Touch=more ram + maybe better form factor. Titan=wifi+slide out keyboard. dschoenike

right, thats why i told him to hit those comparison forums as there are plenty of "which is better" threads...

In all seriousness...if he had a touch b4, chances are he wont like the mogul b/c of the size and lack of memory...

now if the thread was "mogul in the wash, should i vouge??" then it would be different.

Your absolutely right, both are awesome devices in their own respects...

Re: just put my vogue through the wash, how's the titan?

hi guys, i bought the titan. here are my thoughts. form factor on the vogue is (obviously) better. much more elegant device. the titan is a big unwiedlgy brick, biggest phone i've ever owned, although probably similar form factor to an iphone, for example.

really like the hard keyboard, and i realize that accounts for a large part of the size, and i love all the extra buttons. to be perfectly frank WM6 just isn't that thumb friendly unless you've got tiny little hands. i especially had trouble selecting radio buttons and checkboxes on my vogue without the stylus, lame.

at the end of the day the size isn't an issue -- the real question is this: does the keyboard and the great 'don't-use-the-touchscreen-if-you-don't-want-to' controls make up for the fact that 64MB of RAM is REALLY LAME for a device of that size with that big a battery? how old is the titan? what's the excuse -- seriously!

enough griping though, i used buildOS for the first time to load the no2chem's 5067 kitchen. WOAH GUYS! very pro. it's amazing that enthusiasts make this, let me know where to contribute.

a few complaints about the kitchen i built from no2chem's 5067. i'll do searches for these but if anyone has answers off hand or can direct me to some i'd be most appreciative. automatic prepend doesn't work, even though it's turned on, and the dialler appears at random (using HTC dialler), at any given time.

oh, and what's the best memory reclaiming application/strategy? right now i'm using the htc task managet to quit apps, and rebooting nightly, but something else that requires less thinking would be marvelous.

i'm looking forward to the raphael :D, loving HTC right now!

i'm off to throw in a few $$$ for a contribution for all the benefits i have received thanks to the community, thanks guys!

I use Oxios CloseApps, I love it, its a program that will close everything, also even when ereything is closed, it will still give you some extra free ram.. don't know how it works.. but it works...

I'm accepting donations if you are felling generous, they wouldnt hurt when I just finished today dumping $50 to fill up the tank of my 2 door ford focus!

I still have a question... whats better, the touch or the mogul? :evil4:

... no need to answer, I dont want to start any :protest: riots in this thread...

To many problems with the titan. memory leaks etc... to bulky.. I hated it personally .. the touch is a much nicer phone

Re: just put my vogue through the wash, how's the titan?

I got pounded in another PPC site with having to say that choosing your device is a personal preference. They all use mogul including admins. I am a touch user. So obviously I would say get a touch. No offense to fanboys but mogul aka titan is over a year old. It's in the brink of extinction. If you get a titan, You would customize it to look like the touch anyways. So why bother? If you like the look and feel of an iphone kinda device, Then go with the touch. if your a heavy texter or a chatter then go with the titan. You will need a lo of thumbtyping for that. In overall performance, I'll "Touch" it if I were you.

i hope you stick with the touch.. why do you think that mogul is for sale? lol, they prolly tryin to get them a touch too

Re: just put my vogue through the wash, how's the titan?

My first ppc was a touch. When I got the chance to get a replacement, I switched to the mogul. Only reason was, I got a girl that loves to text. Other than that, I would have stayed with the touch. Much nicer looking and easier to carry without your back going out. Besides...I have heard that once you get used to typing with the touch, you can type just as fast.

actually, you can type way faster than you ever could on a mogul.. unless you was using an on screen keyboard on it too.. which completely defeats the purpose

Yeah...I probably would have gotten used to it if I would have just persevered a little longer. I just kept hitting the wrong letters cuz of the way I held my thumbs. Which keyboard do u use for best typing cuz might have access to a free touch. By the way...Kentucky aint that bad...I live in Louisville.

Re: just put my vogue through the wash, how's the titan?

Personally I feel 128 ram is over rated. Sure, i feel short changed whenever I realize that the touch has double ram. But I have never yet found an actual reason to have 128 ram, minus the slight performance increase that im sure comes with it.

I chose the mogul because of the keyboard...shocking, and imo you cant duplicate the responsiveness of actual tactile feedback to the touch keyboard. Plus, after typing a line the screen would turn into a smudegey nightmare. and Wifi. I don't actually use wifi often...but I'm sure there will be one rainy day where I will need internet access and no data connection will be available and I will miss it.

And the mogul is a brick? I cant really think of any place it wont fit. If looks and stuff mattered so much I would be using apple products. The bottom line was I refused to sacrifice features for a minor performance increase. Back when I first got my mogul, it was a nightmare out of the box. But after I discovered ppc geeks, there isn't a single thing wrong with it that I can think of.

basically just sounds to me like you are sticking up for it simply because you have one... your whole post was due to your experience with the mogul and only the mogul.. crazy thing about that is, PLENTY of mogul users have switched to the touch and were MORE than happy.. if you think im lying check out the "convertz" thread in the off topic forum, there are PLENTY of people there that can testify this.. size, ram, and speed make a world of difference.. wifi only goes so far- truth be told, you really would only use it in that rare rainy day case.. the fact tht you think that the responsiveness with an on screen keyboard cant compare to a hardware one also shows that you have no clue on what your talking about because the touch DEF has no kind of laggin whatsoever.. ive dealt with both devices and even though it really is about preference.. the touch pretty much dominated in my opinion.. in my side by side comparison, the size, ram, and speed of the touch was a deal sealer.. anyway, i have yet to meet anyone who has loved the touch, then switch to the mogul and was happy, the only ones who might like the mogul were the ones who never liked the touch in the first place.. otherwise i really think the OP will be pretty disappointed with a mogul if he was to switch

"the fact tht you think that the responsiveness with an on screen keyboard cant compare to a hardware one also shows that you have no clue on what your talking about because the touch DEF has no kind of laggin whatsoever"

Its not about lag, its about the press actually happening in the first place. I noticed when it comes to using on screen keyboards that unless you're really careful how much pressure is applied when you press down, you risk not even pressing the key in the first place. With a hardware keyboard there is no doubt, you either press it or you dont. And you can type zippy quick without ever making one of these mistakes, and sometimes without even looking at the screen.

And im sorry but responsiveness on a ppc is over rated. Sure... I love when my device flies and gives me the impression things are moving "fast" but it doesnt do anything for my actual productivity. Atm the only thing 128 ram would do for me is make me "feel better". or open up the potential for more complex apps in the future. atm no such apps exist that I am aware of, and by the time they come out, I will be using a raphael anyway.

Both devices were out when I got my ppc. I considered my options and opted for mogul.

lets compare quickness shall we, im going to make this one simple an quick.. mogul: you have to slide out the keyboard, use both hands to text, then slide it back in.. compared to
touch:type and send...
boy i wonder who got who beat.. not to mention you guys could never text with one hand, hell id like to see you kill a conversation texting while driving, because i do it all the time with my touch, and i drive a stick lol.. case in point.. the touch with touchpal will destroy any mogul user in a texting match.. idk about you, but im a texting MASTER as i have around 7000 texts per month, and i could only imagine how much hell it would be for me if i had a mogul. (slide out, text, slide back) (slide out, text, slide back) (slide out, text, slide back).. man its gettin old just typing it, let along doing that mess lol

oh well no worries.. the day will come where everyone will realize that the touch has a lot of things that a mogul just cant bring to the table.. not trying to be funny, if i had the new coming rapheal.. truth be told.. id still use the on screen keyboard 90% of the time, that hardware keyboard would be used on occassion (mainly for gaming or somethin idk)

Solitaryman 05-24-2008 02:28 AM

Re: just put my vogue through the wash, how's the titan?

The mogul can use any onscreen keyboard the touch can if you really HAVE to type one handed. But most of the time when I am using the keyboard I actually have something more to write then. "lol b rite dur" And I wont even comment about texting while driving, let alone using a cellphone period. Then again I live in Miami Dade. :P And then when you really get down to it, it becomes a matter of preference.

The touch is an awesome device, it just doesn't do what I would like it to do.
