Verizon Wireless & latest update 6.1

Greetings!

I've got a VX6800 Mogul and am considering upgrading to the latest incarnation - from Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional to 6.1 - and I was wondering which version is the most reliable/suggested for use on Verizon Wireless? We see plenty of articles about upgrades made for installation and use on devises running on the Sprint network... but none that are [equally as particular to favoring the Verizon system. Thusly, there are many kitchens out there... which one - in YOUR opinion is the BEST to use with the VX6800 - on Verizon (in New England).

Thanks for your kind consideration and direction!

I also am a Verizon xv6800 user and I have cycled through my share of ROM flavors. and 2 different kitchens (DCD, and PPCKitchen).
i've landed on the No2Chem 5060 build, using the Geeks kitchen.
this gives you the Windows Mobile 6.1 by default (any custom ROM would typically be 6.1).. happy as a clam. GPS, more reliable, no crashes etc...

Read through the Upgrades section here - i know there are a couple of specific threads about upgrading the Verizon.. you'll want to first upgrade to the latest Radio, before you flash a new 6.1 Rom.
can be a little daunting, but read , and then read some more..

here are a couple threads to get you started.

HERE.
HERE.
and HERE.
somewhere in there you will also find a visual step by step tutorial by yours truly.

main thing is to get past the fear of upgrading the Radio and 'flashing' the phone.
Then you can just take your pick of the custom Roms that are out there.
most popular is of course the No2hem flavors, by way of the PPCKitchen..

good luck. post back any specific questions.

Seconded. 5060 is stable on my XV6800! I used the ppckitchen with no problems. Give it a go!

Re: Verizon Wireless & latest update 6.1

I upgraded my phone a couple of weeks ago with the new radio etc and am on Verizon. I have gone back and forth a couple of times between the dcd and ppc kitchens and am currently using dcd build. I like the ppc kitchen roms but the selections gets to be a bit overwhelming since I don't know what half the stuff is and I really want a clean minimal install. I seemed to have an issue a couple of times with my ppc roms I built causing my data connection to be allways on (data icon had the connection arrows allways on). I thought maybe it was the HTC home plug-in but I had it happen again without the plug in. I am also not sure what the extra rom partion is for that the ppc kitchen creates? I would be interested in someone pre-cooked Verizon rom that is stable for them. I suppose I will search around for that. I do like the SPB mobile shell so I always end up putting that on to whatever I build.

I recommend you follow Nickle's advice. His input helped me quite a bit. I successfully flashed my vx6800 to the newest sprint stock rom then to the no2chem's 5060 using PPCkitchen. His guide is in my sig.

Another positive vote to the PPCGeeks kitchen and the No2Chem 5060 build. I've been running it for over a month now and have had great battery life and also have been enjoying using the GPS (using CO-Pilot Live 6 software).

PLEASE understand that if you flash the entire new Sprint ROM to NOT let the customizations run. It will cause great grief.....

I don't think their has been any exceptions to the fact that you will need to call Verizon Data Services to get a new Authorization key (A-Key). This is documented on all links pertaining to upgrading the XV6800's. They will take you through the process of entering into the phone. It is documented in the second link provided above....

And enjoy a much more improved phone!

I've searched here and looked over at ppckitchen.org and cant find out what all the options are in the kitchen. Is there a list somewhere with an explanation of what they are?

The guide seems to end without finishing the install. Is a page or two missing?

I've been using the dcd 3.0.4 ROM (although there is now a newer one) and it's worked very well for me. I also noticed a big improvement with the newest radio.

It's great to have Rev A and GPS!

YOU SIR are correct. i don't know WHAT in the world was going on there. there were 3 pages missing from the original file.. i've gone back and updated it, to make sure the final flash details were captured..
Thank you for pointing that out !!
the complete file is now available in it's original location - HERE.
