Picking up a Mogul today

Ok I am a Touch user, after a few months with it im ready for a hardware keyboard again so I will be picking up a Mogul either today or tomorrow. I am going to buy one used from Ebay or Craigslist.

How will I know if it has the new Rev A rom update on it already? if it doesn't can i go to Sprints website and upgrade it?

Also I was looking into the custom WM6.1 Rom's here. There are many floating around, which one should I go with? Which custom rom is the most stable?

Re: Picking up a Mogul today

Ya man just buy it. The rom is easy to obtain. You can get it at www.sprint.com/download
I'm positive and your OS would be "Windows Mobile CE". You'll see the update. Or you can get it from HTC HERE I'm pretty sure.
Welcome to a good PPC.

Thanks, now if I wanted to flash to a custom rom which one would you recommend?

First I'd say do a bit of reading in An Easy Guide to Upgrading .Then For a custom Rom I would recommend your make it yourself with/how you want. Titan Kitchen would be the best place to start. Again just read a bit and you should be fine.

Thanks, one last thing. When i get the Mogul how can I tell if its updated with the new rom already? Is there somewhere in the settings I can check? what version # should I look for?

Re: Picking up a Mogul today

Well you can click Start - Settings - System Tab - Device Information - Version Tab - ROM version. I think the newest Sprint stock Rom is 3.35.651.2.
Again even if it 2.09.***** once you get it you can update it. Just make sure it has a clean ESN and you should be fine.

I thought about that, but im not a power user. I never have more than 2 or 3 apps open at one time anyway. Do you still think it will be a problem?

Do you feel its worth it?

yeah, in all fairness if he chooses the mogul, i hope he digs it, its a great brick, i mean, phone my bad.

i think all moguls are shipping with the latest rom.

lol i dont think your downgrading or upgrading. The memory can become a problem, believe me. but your also gonna gain a few things.

I say if you wanna try it, then try it, the touch vs mogul is a never ending cycle, and if you dont like it, there will always be a touch user who wants to trade for a mogul and vice versa

No. I am a "light to moderate" power user, and I do just fine.

I highly doubt it.. the speed of the touch or i Mean the ram is so much important than wifi/gps for me.. and now that the touch has gps/rev.a working for the most part, the wm 6.1 roms are so much faster, and better.
The only good point I see on the Mogul is it has buttons and I can use touchscreen keyboard + hardware keyboard .. touchscreen (only requires my 1 hand), hardware requires my 2 hands.. but we'll see battery has been behaving much better than the touch tho but i need to hit some 1-3hrs long phone calls + heavy text as i do on the touch
like theo ther dude said it is a great brick, i mean phone my bad lol ..

True, at least for the trading part. I threw my Vogue on craigslist, and got a brand new 3 week old Mogul. Couldn't be happier!

Yeah I was going to trade it but I want dont want to get rid of my Touch so quick. Just in case I dont like the Mogul for some reason I have my Touch to fall back on. But I think I'll be ok, since I can use both the hardware and software keyboard depending on what I need to do. The size doesn't really bother me. Yes the Touch is thinner but i dont mind a little size

Re: Picking up a Mogul today

Well I got my Mogul today and I like it so far. Only thing I have to get used to is the size difference. the Mogul is obviously thicker and a little heavy but not to the point that its a burden. It actually seems a little faster than my Touch, but it could be just me. Already came with the Rev A rom so I dont have to worry about that. I can definitely tell the difference in data speed compared to the Touch. Have to finish customizing it tonight. One thing, I still have my Touch and I want to transfer my contacts. What is the best way to do that? Can I save it to my SD card and then put it in my Mogul or do I need some sort of backup program?

Re: Picking up a Mogul today

Easiest way to transfer contacts is with PIMBackup. It will even transfer your text messages, appointments, etc.

Re: Picking up a Mogul today

I think I may have spoke too soon. I havent had the Mogul for a full day yet and its already froze on me 3 times. Twice while surfing the web and once when trying to pick up a call. the screen froze and I could not answer. Each time I had to take the battery out to soft reset. I havent loaded any 3rd party apps yet, I did a hard reset when i first got it so i dont want to do that again if I dont have to. My Touch only froze one time in 3 months. im really bummed out now. I'll see what happens tomorrow and if it happens again its back to the Touch. Good thing I didnt sell it yet.

Re: Picking up a Mogul today

that's certainly odd. i very rarely ever have freezing issues. do be certain that you are using a good web browser, such as opera mini 4.1, with esmertec jbed java. that will completely eliminate freezes while surfing the internet at least. as for the phone call freeze, i don't believe i've ever had anything like that happen to me. i say give it some time.

for certain, the mogul is not perfect. but i am satisfied beyond words with mine now that i have it set up properly.

just in case you are curious, setting up a notification to run oxios memory 1.3 upon device wake up, as well as setting sprite backup to backup nightly (thus resulting in a reboot as well) goes a VERY long way toward eliminating amy memory hassles with the mogul. yes, it can be restrictive at times, but it's truly easy enough to get around.

in closing, i would like to apologize for the lowercase nature of my post, as i am posting from opera mini, and it does not support the autocorrect feature. :)

I think it all depends on the ROM you're using.. the best rom I've used is the VetVito's ROM so far ..

Im using the stock rom that came with it. Maybe that could be it. And when I surfing I was using opera 4.1 but without the new jbed. I will try what you guys suggested to see if that helps. I really eant to like the mogul.

You have the GPS/REv.A rom ?
Mine came with the GPS/Rev.A rom I didn't use it long enough though but it was decent.

Yes I have the GPS/REV A rom. It came with it. But sadly after using the Mogul over the weekend I think I will be going back to my Touch. I didnt have any more freezing issues after that first day but overall I dont think its the phone for me. I liked the keyboard, which is the main reason i got it but the Touch seemed more responsive. Plus the size and weight of the Mogul was a little too much for me coming from the thinness of the Touch. So the Mogul will be on Ebay later today

I am confused, how do you continuously change phones when using Sprint or any service that doesnt use a sim card?
