I need a hardware mute button!!!
Hi, I think this post is in vain, but I guess I'll ask anyway. (I saw a request for this in the "build mogul 2" thread in my hour of searching!)
Anyhow, my biggest hugest worst most needed function with my mogul (XV6800 specifically) is an easier way to mute/unmute. Probably like a lot of people, I spend a ridiculous amount of time on conference calls. I sometimes "multi-task" while doing this while doing things like leaf-raking, window-washing, etc. (Ain't working from home GREAT !!?!??!) while listening to the endless babble. BUT THEN...someone will call my name and ask for input. This is pretty embarrasing with this "phone" because it takes such a long time to get off of mute. I've got to: A- quickly drop whatever is in my hand B- get the phone out of my pocket C- invariably, the screen has gone to stand-by and I've to to press "power" D- wait for the screen to light up (this is hit-or-miss- sometimes it reacts; sometimes it doesn't; other times it's so slow you hit it again only to see it flash on briefly then off and realize you've turned it off again) E- Find the 'mute' button with your finder or stylus F- wait the one or two seconds for that to 'register' and to turn on the mic My bluetooth device is very good, but one thing that's poor is that the 'mute' button is very tiny and right next to the volume buttons, so I don't know if I'm hitting the correct one. So that's useless. And sometimes I will not be using bluetoot and I'll be holding the phone (which admittedly eliminates steps A & B). What I'd really LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE is a way to map one of my hardware keys to mute/unmute, like a good old-fashioned cell phone. And to get really spoiled, I'd like to be able to map one of the LED's for "in-call" use- so I can tell at a glance if I'm muted - right LED solid green?? my mic's on. Solid Red? Mute baby! Anyhow, sorry for this rant. Probably no answer, but I needed to get this off my chest!!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: I need a hardware mute button!!!
Just to pipe in on this one, I would advise if you don't need the features of Pocket Plus's today screen, to disable it. It's a huge memory hog. It *is* pretty, and feature rich, but very greedy. I enable/disable mine as needed.

Even if you like the today plug in its there are better that dont suck down ram such as Ultimate Launch.

Re: I need a hardware mute button!!!
<Sigh>.
SPB does in fact show me an option and lets me assign a hardware button to 'mute', but it doesn't seem to actually, you know, mute the phone. Back to the drawing board....but thanks for the tip. |

Re: I need a hardware mute button!!!
Hey try this thread over at XDA. One of the guys overthere wrote a program that might work for you:

Re: I need a hardware mute button!!!
I was actually just going to say, you'd have better luck looking at a more general PPC software section of a forum than the Titan section, since this is not actually specific to your model phone.
Except for the LED's thing. That's usually hardware specific, so you're less likely to find a WM app that will control LED's since every device has a slightly different way of accessing that hardware. In this case, no2chem has actually written a very interesting application that replaces the driver between the phone and the LEDs so that you can actually control their behavior. I'm not sure yet if you can assign event to turn them on from another application, but I imagine that this is possible, if even with a mortscript or something running in the background to handle controls. Basically, its possible, but you have to REALLY want it to spend the time and make this happen. |
Re: I need a hardware mute button!!!
Thanks guys, I have downloaded itsallwright's CAB and will now set out to figure out what my "button ID"s are. Thanks also for the tip about this not being titan specific....I'm never sure about stuff like this that seems to have an interface to a hardware feature (such as the phone).
