GPS + data connection

I just finally upgraded my phone, an alltel ppc 6800, and yes i'm on alltel.
I first flashed the upgraded alltel rom, then no2chems.

The gps works, but whenever i activate it, it activates a data connection.
No "Dialing #777" icon, just the connection goes grey a bit hten white once it connects up top. "Sprint PCS" data connection.

Is this just a default name given for when it connects to itself for gps data, or is something screwy going on?

No one has a clue? Sorry for the bump, but stuff drops fast over the weekend and i'd really like to know if anyone has come across this before without waiting for the end of the month litmus test via billing

That indicates that it's using aGPS, and getting information from the towers. No one really knows if it is a "true" data connection, or if the arrows are just indicating communication with the tower. I guess the only way to find out is to monitor your bill for data charges.
