It should be able to roam, but yes, it will cost more to make and receive calls.

You need to call Sprint and make sure that your plan is set up for International roaming. Also, if you haven't upgraded to the latest ROM, you will need to *2 upgrade BEFORE you leave.

I have traveled to Montreal a couple of times and it took the first 2 trips to get to where I could not only receive calls, but data roaming would work.

i think they also have something called "Canada roaming" which might be cheaper than international roaming. Its $5 per month.

I am also going to Montreal in a few months.
Can you check if the gps works there and report back.
Would really appreciate it.

GPS worked depending upon the software. The data connection wasn't always the greatest so Telenav and Smart2Go weren't quite as accurate, but I used Odyssey Mobile and it worked well. Just some of the roads weren't as up to date as with Telenav.

You can toggle your data roaming by going into settings-->personal-->Phone.
Select Services Tab and then Roaming in selection Box. Get Settings and then under Data Roam Guard make the necessary adjustments. Never AsK, Always Ask, and the key Allow Roaming.

When I travel into Canada (Ontario) I never have a problem with CDMA service. Without calling *2 to activate international roaming (you dont need that for canada). I always have a pretty strong EVDO signal and no problems with data, but its just really expensive. I highly recommend disabling it.
