There is a drop down box that lets you choose your theme/layout. It is typically in the bottom left, but may vary depending on your current layout. It sounds like you selected a mobile version.

The fact still remains that Apple promotes a view of their products that is less than realistic.

OK, don't get bitter about it... lol
But you did say "Now everyone bow down to Steve Jobs" :)

Umm, hate to break the news to you but " News Flash" ALMOST every company promotes their products as less than realistic...
Didn't you grow up on Saturday morning cartoons and see all those toy commercials that Never lived up to their advertising?

For some reason the word "Apple" or "iphone" tends to bring up so much pent up emotion in people... You mention things like Nokia, Blackberry, Ipaq... LG... on this board and you hardly get a response.

I'm just sensing that despite everyone's denial, there just seems a little bitterness against Apple. I think we are an insecure group.

I don't think it's bitterness. We all want to feel good about the product we bought. So when the iphone campaign hits us from all directions claiming its the end-all be-all device of the future (maybe they didn't claim all that), i know i sometimes get a lil puzzled why our devices don'r get as much publicity. I've personally owned both, iphone and my mogul. Somethings the iphone does very well, but for me and my needs, the mogul was the no brainer choice to keep. It's been said here before, the iphone will probably make our devices even better in the long run. just my 2 cents. dschoenike

Huh? First you said that was claiming to be "the end-all be-all device of the future" and then you said they didn't claim to say that...

Which one is it? I've seen most of the Apple commercials and I'd have to say that I never have seen that claim before...

Perhaps it's just our perception?? Again, it just seems like those two words "apple" and "iphone" raises alot of member's blood pressure and emotions.

(I love my Mogul and don't USE any Apple products..... I guess I should hate Apple right?)

Just wait until the instinct comes out and we'll see about the i-phone.

Call me crazy, but that's why I got a device with a REAL KEYBOARD.... I don't even want to install that HWR on my ipod touch... the touch resolution is only something like 72x72, and its been a LOOOOOONG time since I wrote with my finger.

Funny...

Oh, and its still great at what it does (the iphone/touch....) it just sucks balls as an input device.

I thought my reponses were clear, logical, and unemotional. Any perceived bitterness must be stemming from the underlying emotions of the end reader.

That was a joke. It was supposed to be ironic in the context of the rest of the message :)

Not sure where this is coming from. I prefaced my statements with the fact that I understand the nature of advertising. Stretching and embellishment will of course occur. Maybe I could have been clearer, but the thing I find annoying is the implication (sometimes subtle, sometimes outright) that no other device actually has the capabilities of this [insert Apple product]. Saying that no other product can do it as well is understandable, and defendable as the rightful opinion of the producer. Saying that no other device can do it at all is either ignorance (unlikely as I'm sure they study the markets they are entering) or an intentional misrepresentation of reality. I'm not going to take the time to watch all the iPhone commercials on Youtube, but I'm pretty sure I remember some outright false claims. If you have the time and the inclination to dig up every commercial, transcribe them here, and debate it further then go ahead.

Certainly seems to have released some of your pent up emotions...:)

I'm really not trying to be accusatory or argumentative. But you're putting words in my mouth. I clearly don't hate Apple as I own some of their products. No hard feelings on my part. I'll let this thread get back on topic now.

my point was that apple's campaign was huge and that it was leading us to believe that the iphone was this revolutionary device, doing things a phone never did before. I wasn't quoting a commercial word for word. Cause yeah, they never made that exact claim. jeeze people get grumpy easily. I apologize if i offended you. I love my mogul and my ipod :)

That's fine, make it sound as good as you can. But, they would lead you to believe that everything they do is a groundbreaking accomplishment.

iPhone - Like I said, it is a nice device. It definetly represents some innovation/improvement. It has, however, been done before. Years, and years before. And there are many features that it doesn't have that I can't live without.

MacBook Air - Nice, compact notebook. Subcompacts have been around for years though as well. If you want true portability, a UMPC would be better. Same compromises (no optical drive, limited connection options, etc), but would actually be much smaller and more portable.

I'm also not insecure about anything. I own a Vista based UMPC and love it. I also own a 24" iMac and love it. The fact still remains that Apple promotes a view of their products that is less than realistic.

OK, I'm quoting your FULL quote.

Yes, you do say it's advertising but it really seems to peave you that Apple is doing what every other company does. Go back and reread your own post. It BOTHERS you that Apple seems to do what every other company is doing...

I just find it interesting how strongly people word their posts concerning Apple. I doubt you feel the same about Motorola, Blackberry, Nokia, Lg, Samsung. etc... and Yes they do make some pretty claims in advertising too. And from what I remember, (correct me if I'm wrong) most of the iphone commercials had little talking... When was the last time there was a thread about how Motorola or Nokia advertised their prodcuts?

I'm not really disasgreeing with what you said, I just find it interesting that whenever you bring up Apple and iphone and it really make people react.

Instinct will have a proprietary Samsung OS and no provisions for 3rd party apps except for a Java midlet. Basically just like any other Samsung cellphone, but with a touchscreen and iPhone-wannabe UI. I would hardly even call it a smartphone. Sounds rather craptastic, IMO.
