The sensor checkbox is what you want. If it's on then the backlight won't light up if there's enough light hitting the sensor. If it's off, the backlight will always come on when the keyboard is slid out.
If you uncheck it and slide the keyboard out, it should come on.

I uncheck the box and slide out the keyboard but still no light. I cant type in the dark! Anyone else know of any others settings...?
