Re: Annoyance with push email

I think SEVEN is what you want, free push email with any IMAP account.

using IMAP doesn't allow MS Exchange type push functionality. it only allows a better email experience like if you were using gmail directly.

so you won't see those sent messages as new messages. and if you delete emails it will goto your trash on the server like if you were using gmail directly.

I switched to IMap by deleting my gmail account on the phone, setting it back up with the imap setting and I am still getting the message I sent on my phone.

if you have completed using IMAP you should not be recieving duplicate emails on your phone.

my WM6.1 always wants to autoconfigure the email so i typed in xxxxx@gmail as the address (without the .com) then clicked next. then it allows me to uncheck automatically download configuration.

from there i set up the email as the directions show. once finished i went back into the account and filled in the correct email address. xxxxx@gmail.com

Seven? Are you guys kidding me? That thing is beta and doomed to failure since it will be a pay service when they're done and can't compete with a hosted Exchange account. In other words, if you are going to have to pay a few bucks a month, why not go all out and get a hosted exchange account?

If you want to keep things free, why wouldn't you just use Funambol and be done with it?
Its open source, multi-platform, and works on tried-and-true SyncML technology already built into current Linux distros and many new phones.

Also, if you don't want to run your own server, they have a free hosted service called myFunambol. It has a few limitations compared to running your own server, but its a great free solution.

Or, if you don't mind your outgoing mail address to be @mail2web.com, you can always forward your email to a free mail2web account and do the real exchange push thing.

Either way, my opinion is that Seven is a waste of time. Trying to re-invent the wheel a little too late...

9 bux a month?! feh.
exchange accounts are going UP actually. I remember when it was 5 bux a month, and mail2web even had a 2 dollar option for those who want to use their own email address with their free hosting service.
All these services have gone up in price since WM push has become more popular lately.

108 bux a year is highway robbery to get your email a few minutes sooner... especially with these free options.
