ok so ive been searching for hours and im sure someone can answer this very simply. ok so ive been looking to see if verizon has officially released and updated 6.1 windows mobile rom update thingy whatever you guys call it?

i want to do the gps thing, but i just got this phone, i didnt buy it, i had the 6700 and asurion didnt have any more of those in stock so they gave me the 6800 for free.... not a bad deal. so i dont want to ruin the phone right away lol

any help would be appreciated

i havent seen any press releases from VZW about a 6.1 release. upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.1 would still be a completely different animal vs. upgrading the RADIO to enable GPS.. Verizon is not likely going to enable this on their own, for then it would distract from their chargeable service - the 'Navigator'.
if you want GPS on your xv6800 - you have to hack it..
read up more in the upgrades forum.. read and understand first.. then take a stab at it .. it's actually fun !

ok so, i dont need to upgrade to the 6.1 if i already have 6.0? in order to get gps on my phone?

correct.. you would need to update your RADIO, to the latest 3.35 version (check the 'Updates' forum, plenty of threads will walk you through it - PM me if you need more help).
then flash whichever ROM you'd like - (Nexvision, DCD, No2Chem).. you have to read up on those as well.
most of the 'newer' custom roms are WM 6.1, but you can still find 6.0 build out there.

bottom line is you need the new Sprint Radio, AND a custom ROM, to enable GPS.... (but it doesnt HAVE to be WM 6.1)
