The file you are looking for is your PIM file. You can go to start>programs>file explorer>keep tapping "up" in the lower left hand corner until it grays out>tap and hold on the file "pim">select copy>go to your storage card>tap and hold, then paste.

u can also try windows live and sync your contacts and when u reset your phone just sync it back up and all of your contacts will be there. that is the best solution that i use.

I use PPCPIMBackup. Search here and XDA to find it....I forget where I got it from. I just back up with this util prior to a flash, <I send it to extrom>, and restore after the flash. I also try to do this on a semi-regular basis, along with copying the output file to my PC, in case of hard reset/lost phone.

This happens to me too, I think it is because I don't sync my outlook calendar... I usually just choose "connect without syncing" or whatever... I also use Vista, so I don't use activesync. Oh well. I would use PIMbackup, or you can use Sprite backup and those save your contacts (and whatever else you may need) for you. You can choose to save them to your memory card if you like, that is what I do and I find it very convenient.

I use BirdieSync to sync my contacts/tasks/calendar with Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla Lightning (calendar add-on) - http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/lightning/

It isn't free but if you hate Outlook or just want to be able to have that flexibility, check out BirdieSync...
