Programs on SD Card
I have a question, and yes I did search, but I couldn't find the answer to it. If I install multiple programs on my SD Card and then I reflash my phone, are pieces of the old programs still on my memory card somewhere. The reason I ask this is because I have a 4gb card and i'm starting to run out of space. I don't have that much music on there maybe like 200 songs and 1 movie thats about 200mb. the rest are cabs, zip files and programs and the programs are mainly games( about 7-10 of them) Other than that thats pretty much it.

Re: Programs on SD Card
reflashing the device doesn't uninstall the programs installed to the card.

Re: Programs on SD Card
Just delete the folders on your storage card where the programs are installed. Then re-install them and it will be fine. Though I never install anything to my storage card(s), as a rule of thumb.

Re: Programs on SD Card
As rainfreak intimated, installing programs to your memory card is generally a good rule of thumb to avoid. Some programs don't function properly when installed to a memory card, some programs cause boot loops when installed that way, and when you accidentally eject your card while your phone's running it can get really messy.
That said, obviously since your memory card is not the ROM, when you flash the ROM it has no clue what's on your memory card and won't touch it, so you would need to delete those folders to clear them off. If you reinstall an application to it later, it'll overwrite any standard files, but if there's random temp files or other things created on the fly, those may remain. |

Re: Programs on SD Card
If you never remove your card (it's also hard to do it accidentally) it's not really an issue...
As for boot loop issues (?), I've never really encountered any but then again, I'm not an expert. But I have like 5-6 programs installed on my memory card and haven't really noticed any problems. Just sharing my experience... but again, I'm not an expert. |
