Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

I have a music server that will pass m3u playlists to my phone which I'll play through TCPMP, only problem is that I'd like to conserve battery life while I do this. I've enabled a registery setting :
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\power\state\ unattended
WAV1: =dword:00000000
Flags = dword:00400000

in the hopes of powering off the phone while still streaming music via the data connection. This reg tweak half works but every 10-15 seconds I'll get a blip in the stream. When the phone is powered on normally it streams flawlessly.

Can anyone shed some light? :angry7:

I stream radio stations at work all the time, www.thestreamcenter.com works great on the mogul.

I had a similar problem and it was recommended to me by Coz to use GSPlayer. It works with .M3U's. I had to switch from a .ASX to that when i tried it. The nice thing is that it can turn off the screen while streaming.

I use www.thestreamcenter.com and www.shoutcast.com. TCPMP works pretty well. I used GSPlayer but I haven't reinstalled it since I did my last hard reset.

Here is a link to a forum of the program i use on the computer side of streaming. It kinda describes the setup. It is slightly out of date but should help some people i would think.

Wow I didn't realize so many people used it for the same purpose, I hook mine up to the car stereo as I drive and listen to my music collection. I guess I should elaborate my setup a little more so everyone could learn from it. I run a linux box at home, which is running a streamserver called edna (http://edna.sourceforge.net/)
It will roll through your music folders and generate m3u's on the fly. I set this as my home page in my browser. I guess I'll give one of your alternative players a shot and see if that cures it, easiest way to troubleshoot methinks.
No one else has had to tweak their reg to get the phone to continue streaming audio while in hibernate mode?

I used Orb for quite some time which worked extremely well for me, and required drastically less setup than I've seen mentioned here. That said, since I got my Zune it's gone pretty unused.

Re: Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

I use Orb. I also use thestreamcenter when I want to listen to a station that's staticy on the radio. Live365 has a mobile player but you have to be a premium member to access it (doesn't cost much though).

I had a hard time finding people that do this also. Looks like we might be starting to come out of the wood work. Anyways no i havent had that problem but then again i leave my phone charging when i am playing music. Basically my setup is a webpage that is php that has access to my music. I also have made m3u's of my music and just let the program "pocketplayer" load them into its library. That way i can have a finger friendly list of my music. Its kinda like pocketcm for your contacts, you can just throw the list around. And then of course the most important part is the hookup to my headunit in my car. I use A2dp bluetooth and it sounds perfect!

I stream Sirius all the time and I have S2U2 set to turn off the screen in 30 seconds. The screen goes off and music still plays. Not sure if that's what yall are talkin about but it works for me.

Re: Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

you can also get wisbar and one of the features is to toggle the screen on and off. I tried it with a station from thestreamcenter.com playing on the windows media player and it worked fine.

I used orb to stream to wmp, and set up a hardware button in wmp to turn off the screen

i use resco radio and i think it's awesome, it's nice you can have presets with big buttons(very easy to navigate while driving). never even listen to the car radio in my car anymore, just use resco, its really an excellent proggy.

I do the same thing with both Sirius and S2U2. works perfectly. S2U2 also locks and dims the screen when i'm just listening to music off my memory card too. but when i'm in the car and the phone is plugged into my stereo, it's usually plugged into a car charger too.

http://www.geekstoolbox.com/

there's an app for streaming Sirius over the net onto your phone. you have to have a Sirius subscription though, or you can sign up for the free 3 day trial.

I Stream XM Radio with Mine. What I do is use the Mogul to sign into the XstreamXM website and then once I log into XM, I use a Cassette adapter to plug the audio out from the phone into the car stereo. You will have to go to Radio Shack or an equivalent store to get an adaptor. I Believe the phone has a 2.5mm and you wil need an adaptor for the standard head set jack-The same as you would use for head phones for an Mp3 player. Plug in the Headset adaptor that came with the phone into the USb port of the phone. Then plug in the adaptor you just purchased into the adaptor that came with the phone. Now plug in cassette adaptor into that. Place the cassette into the player and you're streaming through your car stereo. Obviously you are losing a little quality due to the analog signal, but I have not noticed anything drastic. The adaptor will cost approx. $10. It is well worth the money, I use this configuration all the time, and outside of the occassional 10-15 second buffering- driving through rural areas occasionally, it works flawless. Obviously, if your car does not have a cassette deck this will not work. Obviously, make sure your data plan covers this or you will have a HUGE bill .

if your car does not have a cassete deck, you can also use an fm transmitter.

I used "pocket music" to stream music from Shoutcast and it works great. Even supports winamp skins.

Re: Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

Didn't know about the FM Transmitter for the phone. I use those (Monster version) for my Ipod and in big cities such as Chicago, it's hard to stay on one channel when driving any long distance. Radio stations are fighting for a signal and I'm always picking a new band width to transmit. If you do not live in a big city such as Chicago, New York, etc, this maybe the way to go because it is less clutter in your car, but I have found that the tape adaptor is consistent and does not get interrupted, unless you eject the adaptor from the tape deck.

kupo 04-05-2008 11:58 AM

Re: Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

I'd have to agree that an FM transmitter is never a real solution, you're always fighting interference and the quality of sound is usually quite bad. I use a similiar setup of the tape deck adapter but I'm trying to rig up something nutty for a while now. It's a bluetooth headset embedded inside a tape deck adapter. I want to wire the output of the headset to the induction coil of the tape adapter. Sorta like this thing http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/2005/02/23/abe-bt-80c-bluetooth-stereo-cassette-adapter/
which unfortunately never came out.

Re: Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

2 reasons i forwent the cassette adapter
1>the connection was getting flakey and i had to keep jiggling the connector.
2>i had to unplug the line every time i wanted to use the phone via bt. the old rom the calls would go to BT even if i had the audio plugged in.

so the motorokr t505 was the best solution for me, and no, i don't work for motorola and no i don't get a commission :P

FYI, after extensive googling, I found this http://www.uxcell.com/bluetooth-audi...e-p-11805.html

I don't know anything about the site or if it's reputable but you can add it to your shopping cart so I assume they have it in stock. Let me know if you decide to go this route. I'm debating between doing this and paying $99 for a new cd player from crutchfield that has bluetooth built in.

nice find bugsysiegals!
I remember looking like crazy for this type of devices a couple of months ago. It looks like you charge it seperately and then it sits in your tape deck accepting bt connections. I'm wondering however if its gonna support A2DP? Anyone brave enough to order this?

I use GSPlayer to stream playlists to my phone from my MythTV box. I had to do some fancy work with access rights, but I can use the web interface to make the playlists, then drop them on my phone and listen in the car.

Only problem is when I drive to the one spot on my way to work where I lose service.....other then that it works great.

kupo 04-12-2008 01:16 PM

Re: Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

calash maybe you can try to increase the buffering in GSplayer, often I'll hit dead spots but the evdo can pull so much data that I'll run off the buffer for a bit intil I'm back in the zone and never have my music cut off.

kupo 04-13-2008 01:24 AM

Re: Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

ok I tried GSplayer and that still won't let me stream with phone in hibernate. I'm definitely looking for a reg tweak to solve this still.

Re: Does anyone else us stream music to their mogul?

I use MortPlayer and am able to hit the power button and continue playing. Although, I'm not sure if I've ever used it for streaming feeds though. Give it a try and see if it works.

why not just set your backlight to go off after 30 seconds or something? i use S2U2 and have it set to automatically lock when my backlight turns off after 30sec. that way, i start streaming from SiriusWM5 and set the phone down, then in 30 sec the screen shuts off and it locks with S2U2. the only way to turn it back on is with the power button and even then the screen is still locked.

unless you have some other reason for needing the phone in hibernate while streaming other than to save battery life on the screen light or to keep from a button being tapped/pushed or something.

yes i do! the one i use is through my windows media play! the only thing that i don't like is that it kills my battery life whether the phone is connected to the charger! does any one know how to fix that? thanks!

www.thestreamcenter.com is only for desktop computers and not the mogul. it will send you to www.tuned.mobi folks. So i would use that one. Also keep in mind that streaming music over the net you might need to pay money to the RIAA so i would not at all recommend streaming your mp3 files to your phone. RIAA is out to get everyone and their left nut.
